I gave a nice wave and peace sign to a matching R1T yesterday, and he just mad dogged me as he drove by. Not cool. If you drive an LG R1T with RTT down 6th/Holly in Denver - You've hurt my feelings.

Usually I at least get a nod.

Don't take it personally. Many people are oblivious to recognizing other vehicles on the road.
My experience of driving in the US (West Coast) is that 99% of drivers seem to be narrowly looking about 1ft in front of the car or on their phone. Zero road awareness or consideration. You let some out at a junction or past in a narrow road, do they raise a hand in appreciation (standard practice in the UK & EU), do they f*ck.

What’s up with fellow Rivian owners in my part of NJ?! There is a growing number of us on the road and, like when driving our Wrangler, I wave or (in the absence of an ā€˜official’ Rivian greet) flash my lights. The response? Nothing, zilch, nada. They don’t even look as they go past. Obviously jealous that they wish they’d spec’ed El Cap on 22’s but I can’t help their shortsightedness!
It's your location. As a general rule, Yankees aren't openly friendly, at least compared to how people are down south. We'd rather be nice and then say something ugly about you behind your back.

I concur with the UK practice. I’m from the UK and if you don’t raise a hand in thanks/acknowledgment - that’s the rarity. And no offense to my fellow New Jersians, but your driving generally sucks. There are these things called mirrors. Maybe use them once in a while. Sorry, soap box has been put away now

There are generally enthusiasts and "regular people".

I'm willing to bet there are far more of the latter. That variance will continue to grow as they ramp up their production. Since Rivian has one of their main headquarters within 10 minutes of me, I see 20+ day. Maybe one will look over and give a thumbs up.

Goes for any vehicle really.

Early Teslas owners did the same. Now ever other car (literally) is a Model 3/Y driven by an average person who wants to get from point A to B.

Maybe driving on the wrong side of the road has something to do with it? Like your dominant arm is free to wave at a short notice? Jk ;)

But I wouldn’t expect any different, Seattle Freeze and all. And, I don’t always feel like it either.
Yeah, when I'm out of state I typically do a flash or wink at other Rivians, but in Seattle I barely acknowledge my coworkers and closest friends, so...

They’re just jealous of you camper shell
That's possible I suppose, although more likely confused - "is it an R1T or an R1S or something else... oh well, to far gone to wave...."

I always give a wave when passing a fellow Rivian, whether that's in the same direction of travel or opposite. I would say my success rate is about 50% but slightly higher if we're both traveling in the same direction. When I owned a Subaru WRX, it was much higher given that those vehicles are typically driven by enthusiasts. It seems like to me, the R1 is just a car to many. I have an acquaintance that purchased an R1S, and only purchased because he wanted a 3-row EV to tote his family around. He could care less about the R1 platform otherwise. Just an observation.

I swear the per capita ownership here in Tucson is through the roof and I'd say there are waves or flashes 80% of the time. It's a little harder when everyone has dark tinted windows, though.

Side note: It's weird - I have yet to see a single Rivian in Phoenix outside of the SC, but I see 1-2 a day in Tucson in all parts of town (and lucids, hummer EV, along with every other flavor of EV). I'm assuming it's all in my head because Phoenix is so big and populous, by comparison, but still

EV adoption seems super high here but we get little infrastructure support.
FWIW I saw 4 in a weekend during a business trip to Scottsdale in August.

Same in Orange County, CA. Majority of owners don't respond. Since taking delivery mid July, I've only had two people wave back. Majority of R1S drivers were female. None of them waved back. Oh well. Life goes on.

I aggressively wave here in OC.
Also, if I see you in a parking lot I will pressure you into looking at my camp kitchen and meeting my dog
