You can’t use a coin. Or at least I can’t. The slot for the screwdriver doesn’t cut all the way to the ends, so the slot isn’t long enough to insert a coin.
A dollar coin worked fine for me no issues!

Well the service technician showed up without any low voltage batteries or parts whatsoever. He is going to try to jump the truck and revive it. This of course is only slightly helpful because although I could move it if he's successful, there is no way I can actually drive it anywhere and risk it dying until an underlying cause is identified and addressed. Much better to have it dead in the driveway than out in the wild somewhere. One Strike for Rivian on Service Appointment #1.
Depending on the cause, it could simply be a software bug that effects everyone but is fairly rare. This was the situation for the Taycan. Owners would randomly have 12V batteries die until Porsche finally figured out a software correction.

If jumping the battery solves the problem then get a set of jumper cables to carry around until an official fix is released.

According to the tech, the two 12v batteries are bad. They appeared to only be providing 2.5v when they are supposed to be providing 12.5v. That said, could be something in the charging system between the HV batteries and the LV batteries. Parts need to be ordered now. He also mentioned that charging it up wouldn’t be helpful because for whatever reason, if the LV batteries are showing 2.5v, they usually only can charge to a maximum of 8v and that isn’t enough to run the truck. On the bright side, I got a good view of how to open all the panels around the frunk and what was behind them. I thought there was a loud ass fan at the top left and it turns out it is the interior AC compressor making that noise. The fan is actually up front and there is a coolant loop that goes there. The coolant reservoir is on the left and the brake fluid top right.

Just curious, if the batteries are dead, what parts do they need to order? Are they some crazy Rivian only specific shape/size battery I take it or is there something else they're changing out?

Oh it’s a crazy ass lithium Rivian battery times two. It’s what is under the red covers in the pictures.

The “ conduit” for the wiring is….interesting in many places. All of this is elements exposed. Could have done some more with shrink wrap but we’ll see how it holds up.

Pretty sure they aren't lithium, just SLA.

and finally the jump points. The tow cover is held on by two plastic screws that seem like a quarter coin would be fine to unscrew. The jump cables are covered in black tape to prevent shorting and also attached to the jump cable cover so they pull out a bit when you pop the cover. A flat head screwdriver was used to pop the cover. Putting 12v on the cables allowed the frunk to open via the fob but the vehicle didn’t boot. Didn’t ask about the doors.

The Rivian tech stated lithium so just parroting what was told to me. They are pretty small so I wouldn’t assume a standard battery chemistry.

Unless they changed them, they appear to be C&D DCS+ VRLA (valve regulated lead acid).

Odds are your "underlying cause" is a potential issue for every Rivian owner, and I've never had a dead 12V battery yet. You're just another winner of the Rivian early adopter lotto.
I hear you. I tell people I'm a beta tester. I'm not butt hurt about the situation and I'm still a Rivian fanboy.....as long as they show up with some batteries in the next week or two. Cross fingers whatever it is turns out to be very uncommon.
