This is also anecdotal: I too have a Model S (2017) and the rear drive unit was replaced about 2 months ago after 45,000 miles. It started making a low, but noticeable repeating "tock-tock" sound that was speed related. The sound was not overly loud, but lasted at least up to 45 miles per hour at which point the road noise drowned it out. The sound was not just the single tock sound that seems to appear in Rivians when the truck starts to move.I know this is just anecdotal and may not be relevant, BUT I had a very early Model S and the drive unit had to be replaced. The replacement lasted 8 years and had zero issues. With these electric motors they seem to fail early If they are going to fail.
As someone questioned in another post, I wonder if the Dual Motor Enduro configuration will eliminate the tock in Rivians. The half shafts should be longer and thus the angles smaller. This may affect the noise.
