Getting way ahead of myself here since we're months away from deliveries in all likelihood, but does anyone have any good camping destinations in mind once they get their R1? Something in the North Georgia mountains would be great to start with given I'm already in the northern suburbs.

I've never been much of a camper, but would love to take my kids (4 and 6) for a night here and there, break out the Camp Kitchen and Yakima tent, and enjoy the outdoors. I'm sure we'll get more adventurous in terms of destinations as we get more comfortable, so hoping to do something easy(ish) to start with (but not necessarily a camp site).

Any suggestions would be great!
Not quite in Georgia, but there are a ton of great spots with white water rafting up in Chattanooga, TN and in Pisgah National Forest in SC. Pisgah might be a bit outside of round-trip range from North Atlanta but if memory serves Chattanooga is well within round trip range.

I’m from Atlanta but now live in Knoxville. Agree that Chatt or Pisgah would be great places! I’d love to be a part of it.

Moccasin Creek, Cloudland Canyon and Black Rock Mountain are ones you might enjoy

Moccasin Creek State Park on Lake Burton is a great spot. It’s in Rabun County close to everything…even the AT.

Just finding this thread here. In Atlanta (Kennesaw, technically), and make it up to N GA and GSMNP at least a couple of times a year. Have you guys seen anything with regards to faster charger locations, etc? There's a L2 charger at Deal's Gap supposedly and a DCFC in Elijah. Have you guys seen other locations or likely Rivian locations that would support a round trip from the Atlanta area?

The current RAN concept map has locations in the Cherokee, Gatlinburg/Sevier County and Robbinsville areas. In their RAN announcement, they specifically mentioned the Blue Ridge Parkway, so those plus Asheville make sense in the Southern Appalachians.

Cherokee / Robbinsville would be excellent as that's the route I normally take vs. Gatlinburg on the N/W side. The maps I've seen lacked a lot of detail. Has something more been released or you're just speculating based off the super high level maps?

Nothing concrete, but their logos are pretty much right on the 4 towns I mentioned. Of course they could end up in a different town like being in Bryson City or Sylva instead of Cherokee. But they’re definitely planning stations in those general areas at some point — theoretically by the end of 2023, but I doubt they’ll build out their whole network that quickly.

I believe that Dawsonville, GA is not on the current plan for RAN, but either Rivian, Electrify America and others might be missing a great gateway stop to North Georgia for those going on extended drives. Seems like a lot of Atlanta people head up 400 to the mountains, it's a big opportunity to relieve stress getting to charge on the way up or back there. Also lots of food and shopping options.

I would love to see fast charging in north Georgia along all 5 of the highways running north from Atlanta:

I-75 (maybe somewhere like Adairsville to split the difference between Atlanta and Chattanooga)

I-85 (somewhere like Commerce to split the difference between Atlanta and Greenville

I-575/US76 (Ellijay probably makes the most sense, but maybe as far north as Blue Ridge to also catch people traveling east-west on US-76)

GA400/US19, maybe in Dahlonega or Dawsonville (but close to 400/19 rather than in Dawsonville itself)

I-985/US23 (Clayton would be my pick so it's also useful for US-76 east-west traffic)

I usually go up 575 but yes, I agree. It's a corridor I travel pretty regularly and round trip is going to be just beyond the 316 mile range - or closer to it than I'm comfortable, especially if it's going to sit a few days while I'm in the back country. I need a dependable fast charger, ideally DCFC, somewhere on the route that I can juice up on the ride up or back and not be concerned about traffic or detours or anything else that would leave me in a bind. Right now I'm looking at this location (https://goo.gl/maps/BaXednwRbEaUEmRM6). According to ChargePoint it has 2 L2 chargers and 1 DCFC charger but according to the comments the DCFC hasn't worked for some time. I've also heard rumors of some going in at the casino in Cherokee where they have a bank of Tesla chargers today. I'd love to see something go in somewhere in that corridor. Thoughts from others?

Hey everyone! Just dropping in to introduce myself and share a FB Group that I'd love to see grow this and next year as we hopefully begin to take delivery of our R1's: Atlanta Rivian Owners

All Georgians are welcome!!

There's only two of us in there now with R1S reservations due next year, but I know there are plenty of R1T's coming very soon, so please join up because we're all trying to kill time by sharing our builds and socialize about our upcoming adventures until we eventually start to see these trucks in person in the Peach State!
