Gear Shop - Cannot Use Rewards to purchase Spare Tire?

I tried to use the rewards to purchase the spare tire. Chat support informed me rewards cannot be used to buy the spare tire. Is that correct or did I get a bad response?

That is correct. Anything that cannot be purchased directly in the gear shop (without being redirected or calling a number to order) cannot be purchased with points

They must have set it up this way intentionally. They'd rather not be giving out a $755 spare tire for basically free to everyone who got $750 shop credits from being a referral/referree. They'd much rather have those $750 shop credits being spent on much higher margin merchandise.

It does suck - they should just update the wording to say somthing like ‘online gear-shop purchases’ or similar - as it’s what they mean, but advertise a load of stuff ‘in the shop’ that’s just a placeholder for parts bought through service centers or 3rd parties. The terms and conditions do call this out, but you really have to read the small print to get it.

Yap, if it’s on the gear shop, you should be able to use the points

It's a bad look. A startup asks to get their community to help refer business. On the backside they limit items that everyone really wants, a spare tie.

The spare for my BMW X7 was $250 on order. I think a Rivian spare for $755 has enough space built in to allow Rivian to profit.

I tried to use my credits also for the spare and was told that since it has to be installed by service that it doesn't qualify. I ended up purchasing it out of pocket anyway since we take a few road trips a year and I rather have it than wait hours for a tow truck if the fix a flat doesn't work.
