First Mile: Unsure

I did my first mile in Sonoma, months ago, I felt the same as the OP.
Great truck but really not as great as everybody is raving about.
The area, despite being beautiful, does not compare to what I would use the truck for 98% of the time. Acceleration… I had just gotten out of our M3P… Interior space, not bad but not great… Luxury of it, not bad but really all types of plastics going from soft (seats) to not as soft (other touch surface)… Dashboard, not much better than our Raptor… And it goes on.
Yes, I will still get our S (or T) when it comes.
Why? Because I waited so long, because I don’t want to think I was wrong waiting all this time ? and because maybe my First mile impression was limited by the environment and other factors.

By the way, has anyone wondered how come some late 2021 are getting theirs already? Could it be because thousands of people have decided to get something else after test drives (or other reasons)? Do all the people selling theirs after 200-600 miles, sell because it’s sooo great that they decided to live without it?

I left…I’m finding a difficult word for it, underwhelmed? I’m trying to figure out of my experience is unique to the circumstance/location or reality.

It looks exactly how I was expecting it to look. The size was exactly what I was expecting. The features all there. The colors were surprising. The drive? ….

I spent about an hour with it in LA traffic. It’s hard to get excited about the car in traffic. Especially after spending nearly 2 hours in traffic to get there. Handling? Idk…it made right hand turns from a stop ok. Braking? Great from 20 mph.. Ride quality? It’s LA…it was bumpy even on soft. Size of the vehicle? Traffic + construction, it felt tight at some sections. Acceleration? It’s stupid fast.

It left me with more questions than it answered and left feeling like maybe I should have skipped the first mile and just taken delivery. Now I’m going to be fretting over it until my car comes

Did anyone else do their first mile at the Venice hub? What was your take on it? I’ve been waiting for this car for 3 years..did I overhype myself?

5 pages of replies and no mention of tire pressure or ride height. I am super sensitive to ride quality and can tell you that both tire pressure and ride height make a big difference in the R1T. My truck was delivered with over-inflated tires. Lowering to the 48 psi spec helped a lot. 48 is rather high as a specification. My F150 has a much lower pressure and until I lowered the pressure in my Rivian the F150 had a better ride. Also you have to set the R1T to normal or higher ride height to get a soft ride. Conserve and sport mode both lower the ride height and are bumpier. Normal mode will also lower ride height at highway speeds unless you ask it not to, and if you have a bumpy highway, ride suffers. Your test drive was probably done mostly in sport mode.

Once I got it all figured out the Rivian was better than my F150 Lariat. My F150 is 2 wheel drive on excellent street tires so it is better than most F150s out there.

I mentioned ride height. The tire pressures were at 48psi, I noticed that too. I set my Tesla to 42psi for the optimum ride quality, 47psi if I want better range.
