why cancel? change the dealer. Ford will change from what I've read.
Friction. How many hoops does one need to go through to give Ford money?

Dont get me wrong, it's not the end of the world, it's just irritating.

I too am not a fan of the dealer model, but when you find a good one you stick with them, but that's harder to do when they're all starving right now.
I have contacted many and switched once already. Giving your money away should not be this exhausting.

Thats why I'll be disappointed if I can't get an F150 Lightning or they try some last minute markup, but the R1T is a perfectly good fallback plan, even though it means waiting longer.

Welp, Ford can consider me a lost cause. Thanks, failing dealership model.

Dealership sent me an order confirmation to sign today, after they accepted the order in their system, MSRP + $5k + taxes and fees. I asked for explanation on $5k, which we all know they're doing, and was told "Due to the limited supply of the new Lightnings we are charging an additional $5,000.00 over MSRP. We also upcharge on vehicles with very limited supply such as Broncos, Super Duty trucks, and any specialty vehicles."
Fine, it's capitalism in a dying sales model. Whatever.
so after they confirmed your online order with no ADM they sent you paperwork changing the terms? If that’s the case it’s very shady. I’d complain to ford and any local media that would listen. The online order is set up to clearly show any ADM.

I could not have been quicker when registering for Lightening. As soon as it opened I had my credit card and was inputing my data. As it turns out at "el Cajon Ford" here in San Diego I am #36 on their list. I was surprised I was so far back. No email request to order yet. Im guessing that a bunch of employees or friends of dealers jumped in front of me in the subsequent days. WRT Rivian I came to the party on the late side. I put my deposit down in Feb of 2021 which gives me a production date of "July to sept 2022". Im probably going to go with whoever seems to deliver first. I see plusses and minuses on both sides. I jsut wish it was sooner. I watch YouTube E-car porn every night, haha. I have the fever.

FYI El Cajon Ford says no marks up over MSRP.

Definitely grabbing which ever is available first as well. Like you said each truck has advantages over the other. At least with Ford I'll know by March if I'm getting a truck this year or not. March will be the last wave of orders. I have July to September as well, but expect that to get pushed back unless Rivian surprises us all with a sudden boost in production.

Well if anyone in the Seattle area wants a black on black Lightning with spray lined bed and is willing to pay $5k mark-up, let me know!

If you cancel your order, they are going to charge a lot more than $5k to whoever they sell the truck to, unless Ford just takes away that allocation.

Jealous of all these order emails. I'm told I'm #4 at a dealer but no email yet. I was on the reservation page refreshing every second as the order banks opened. I had credit card in and processed within 20 seconds of the orders going public. Still... no official word yet. I have no friends and family connections with Ford. Never owned a Ford in my life... or Rivian either for that matter.

I was going back and forth on Rivian / Ford and decided I'll just get both. That is... assuming current pricing and if I'm ever offered one at no markup. Rivian will be the daily driver and Ford as a work truck / trips to the dump and home depot. If I secure the Ford sooner than later, I might consider switching the R1T to the SUV since I don't HAVE to have two trucks. But not sure if Rivian is still allowing model changes while keeping Launch Edition. Guessing that window passed. I'm committed to the Rivian though. I was sold on the interior. Going to order the Ford with few options. My Rivian est. currently May timeframe.

I keep toying with that idea as well to save some $$. But is use the Ford as my commuter, and let the wife use the R1S as hers and our primary driver.

Except I decided in 2019 I'm not commuting in another car without some active safety features anymore, and I'm sure as hell not buying a vehicle without active cruise control. I'd be totally fine with manual windows and a pretty basic seat. But ACC is one of my personal required creatures comforts.

I don't know the options matrix off the top of my head but I imagine ACC should be an option even on lower trim level Lighting's. Its a safety thing right? I'd hope its at least an option on all trim levels.

ACC isn't part of copilot 2.0, you have to get copilot assist 2.0. Which is a $9,500 upgrade on the xlt.

Base price then:$64k.

Also, they literally don't say what the hell is included in copilot 2.0 on the configurator. You have to go snooping elsewhere.

Ugh, they knew the pain points then with that decision. Had planned on getting the base XLT. I'll have to think about it a little. Don't really need the extra two-ways power driver's seat that $9500 upgrade includes. But ACC is kind of expected on a modern vehicle.

Exactly. I'd be totally fine with the Pro otherwise too. That upgrade cost on the XLT is why people have basically landed on the absolute base Pro (maybe with towing options) or the lariat+. They definitely didn't price the XLT packaging to be particularly attractive, and obviously put some basic limitations on the Pro that limit its desirability as a daily driver outside of being a work truck.

Same. Ford is definitely shoehorning buyers into the Lariat+ which costs more than my configured LE R1T. At least the Lariat+ trim comes with the 80A L2 charger. My Ford Dealer contacted my to configure on the opening day Jan. 6th (I was surprised because I placed deposit 2 weeks after launch) They called me back later and said they made a mistake and I would be contacted when my window opened. He was surprised that I knew more about the ordering process than him... I didn't find it surprising. I was surprised that he had heard of Rivian although I could tell by his demeanor his impression was that it was vaporware. Hopefully I will drive the R1T to take delivery of the lightning HAHA.
