Battery electric vehicles (BEV) will, on average, be less costly to produce than gas-powered cars by 2027, according to market research firm Gartner.

Gartner predicted in their report, published Thursday, that production costs will decrease much faster than the cost of batteries, which account for about 30-40 percent of the EV’s purchase price, according to the Environmental Defense Fund.

This is great news. Of course to really get costs down and keep them stable companies have to be more vertically integrated. Not mention, the US needs its own lithium and battery production to get off the ground.

Problems arise when a wiring harness made on the other side of the planet can’t be accessed anymore or another country controls the lithium supply or battery production and decides to jack up the price on its competitors.
