Completely wireless! I sure would be glad to see how the install is done in that case. One thing I disliked with the current added screen is the acces to the fuse panel, not too bad but definitely more restrictive to access when connecting that thing.
The button is wireless. The EVPlay unit itself has wired connections.

Ok. Perhaps I misread the earlier thread then.

No. You could ground the parking brake wire to the metal housing of the rear of the unit to bypass it though.

Kidding about the bypass...those that bought aftermarket Pioneer DVD units back in the day get the reference.
Arguably there should be an option to enable it regardless, similar to Pioneer's Demo mode... Even if that means agreeing to a waiver. Yes, you should never do it (legally wise) but if we own the equipment then we should be allowed to use it how we see fit? Not everyone uses it on road either! This is an adventure vehicle after all... and you shouldn't govern it's use offroad

Plus this screen could also be utilized by the passenger, the driver has their own cluster.

Not to mention the potential situations where we would be able to safely utilize it - depending on how it's considering "in motion".
- If GPS speed, what about rail or ferry use? That'll show gps speed but no wheel speed.
- If gear indicator/wheel speed, what about in drive throughs or other lines of low speed? Not on road use sooo?

No extra wires (it is completely wireless), double-stick foam tape so it is secure, but not permanent. It's black, and I have mine mounted to the side of the center console, down towards my seat (check out the video on evplay.io if you haven't already). No one can see it but you, it blends right in. It becomes second nature since your arm is most likely resting on the arm rest already.

There a few obstacles with a gesture:

· There isn't really any available real estate across all the screens, on both the RIvian UI and the EV Play UI. You also have to consider what might appear in those locations in future updates, on both devices.

· A gesture would require modification to the Rivian UI, and that starts getting into that grey area of IP and warranty. It also is something that Rivian could patch pretty easily.

I understand the want to have it built into the Rivian UI, and perhaps that will happen in the future. But as someone who has used this regularly for months, I would not use a built-in gesture even if it were there.

I think if anything, a long press of the right thumb wheel on the steering wheel could be an option. But again, I'm not a fan of long pressing anything in this particular use case.
Ughh..... Batteries in a button box.....

But hey, is what it is.

There are 0 use cases for video in motion:

Off road? Even worse. You're inching down a 60 degree incline or tearing around a blind curve on a fire road - what possible urgency is there to watch Seinfeld reruns? Offroading requires way more focus, not less.

Passenger use - you as a driver don't need to physically look at the screen to be distracted. Think sudden gunshots, honking, screams, explosions, sirens, flashing lights (esp. at night). Plus, you're lying to yourself if you aren't going to casually glance over during that scene from Wild Things when Denise Richards gets out of the pool.

As for the actual metric, it's wheel speed under 5 mph. So you are good on ferries and good at drive throughs. Just don't be that guy in front of me at In N Out that's glued to the screen and doesn't notice the cars in front of him have already gone.

(Note to self - file patent for Drive-Through Chime)

The only use case I can see for video while the vehicle is in gear would be to check a camera (connected wirelessly to EVPlay) on a trailer that you're towing as you, for example, back into a campsite. Perhaps a future option would be to allow EVPlay to show video when in reverse?

I could see a use for offroading or maneuvering in tight quarters and have additional cameras you would like to interface with. I definitely would use an extra camera for trailing towing.

Both are great ideas, please add them to the Feature Request section of our Forum if/when you get a moment.

Camera apps wouldn't be included in the block list, so wired or wireless cams for off-roading and trailering would be totally doable. Or how about, "E.V. - launch the drone" and being able to view it on your main screen while you're driving.

This is fantastic. I have paid $450 for getting AA upgrade on my Mazda from the dealer and would strongly consider this.

One thing I did not see is a button to trigger the Google assistant, like the ones on cars with AA/CP. I would want it to stick on the dash or behind the steering wheel.

Definitely hopeful this pans out. Subscribing so I can check back after the reviews come in. Good luck with your product launch!

Are there any plans to intercept the signal for rear display and allow in motion video there?

@EV Play - Alex This is amazing progress, and I can't wait buy a few units. Great work!

I have some issues with other CarPlay head units:
  1. Some of them freak out if powered on but not connected to CarPlay for hours (the overnight charging scenario), requiring a reboot.
  2. My phone's constantly forgoes my home WiFi in order to connect to CarPlay in the garage (even though the car is locked and idle), because the head unit is on, because the car is not asleep, because it is charging and/or stupid.
  3. My phone's Bluetooth is constantly connecting to the Rivians in my garage (locked and charging). I'm not sure what can be done about this; it seems like a Rivian software stupidity issue (there nobody triggering the front seat weight sensors, and I'm not camping), but maybe there's a hack from the EV Play side that can make this better. For example, automatically hard disabling the car's Bluetooth via black magic hackery.
I bring them up here in the hopes that they can be proactively fixed with EV Play. That would add some value to your product.

Those shouldn't be an issue here as the subsystem responsible for AA/CP shuts down when the doors are closed and there are no occupants in the vehicle.
