I vehemently disagree with the notion of a hybrid package working for the Corvette. I'm sorry, but from a space and weight perspective, a hybrid is the worst of both worlds. You need the packaging and systems of the batteries, the electric motors, the gasoline drive train. All of it. 10 years ago, it worked, because the battery and motor tech wasn't there. It just doesn't make sense anymore. I'd go out on a limb at this point and say I can't see another decent hybrid hitting the market, and if one does, it'll flop dramatically.

Guess we'll see if Ferrari has a flop on their hands with the 296 GTB.

I suspect that the purpose of the hybrid is to get people to accept the full electric Corvette instead of just jumping right into it.

I'm also surprised they went through the trouble of developing a hybrid when full electric was the end game....but I'm sure they won't have any trouble selling everyone they make, and most of them will probably be marked up sky high.

I have a PHEV Jeep, and it works beautifully for our family. Never use gas during trips around my small town. Just gas up on road trips, no wait to charge. Best of both worlds for us. Plus the top comes down.

Of course, I'm trading it for a Rivian as soon as I can get one.

I drove one of the PHEV jeeps and hated it. Of course I'm used to driving full EV, so going back to a PHEV that seems to be meant to introduce people to electric was absolutely a step backwards.

Plus it was a jeep, with all the wind noise to go along with it.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/electric-corvette-is-coming/

Apparently Chevy just announced that they are going to announce a fully electric corvette. Me not really seeing how they will be able to stuff enough batteries into a corvette to make it work out well, expects that it might be the Corvette SUV that the rumourmill keeps crunching, so thusly, would be potential competition to the R1S.

I really have to expect that the performance is going to be better than the R1S, otherwise, what's the point?
With all the space behind the driver in the mid-engine layout, there's a ton of space for batteries. Lotus is looking forward and planning to put the batteries in same space the ICEs put the engine to keep the mass centralized and maintain similar handling characteristics. I'll bet they can do it and still keep the Cg similar. But to start, it'll just be adding a motor to the front axle and likely a small capacity battery to get AWD and very limited EV-only movement. I'm kinda wanting a C8 Z06 just for the crazy-factor and being the last of its kind, but I welcome electrification to the platform.

Vettes are for boomers who are probably losing their hearing anyway.
Very much not a Boomer here, more like borderline millennial/xennial. But yes...the Boomers are absolutely going ape over this announcement. That said, I do love the roar of my LS...very different experience to my EV daily-driver.

No politics in my thread please.
Just because Biden mentioned it, doesn't automatically make it political. So he talked about the E-vette, big deal?

What I really want to know is: did they expand on the subject? Will this be a hybrid or go full BEV? I hope to see both
