Dent Reduction Mode

OCD post alert....I admit it...

I hate door debts. Like really hate. 99% of time, I park where it almost has zero chance of happening.

But...on occasion...I have no choice but to park in a lot next to other cars.

I believe by getting truck up as high as possible in those situations, I minimize the likelihood of a car next to me getting metal door instead of the cladding beneath it, which won't dent.(this happens to be a pro-tip too)

However....using this mode is contrary to my wife ease of exit and reentry....so highly discouraged from the passenger seat.

So...how about a door dent reduction mode.

Upon putting truck in park...go to squat lowest position. One doors are closed and truck is locked, move to highest position. Once doors are unlocked, back to the lowest position.

I know I am crazy...but thinking outside the box here.....

Eh. This is what gear guard is for. If I get out and the guy next to me dented my door he will come out to a cop taking a report for my insurance company.

Whoa. You must be Richie-Rich to have that kind of police response! In most parts of country, they would not even send an officer to such an event.

Where I live the police ask if the damage exceeds $1000. If not they will not send a officer.

When my paint is chipped and my door needs to be repainted it will exceed 1K pretty easily.

I am equally annoyed by the dents that don't chip paint and can be removed for $200 at the paintless dent removal place. But yeah....if your door was hit that hard, to remove paint, then I would be calling police for a report too.

But easier solution is avoid them....and the hassle of dealing with the repair.

This is one area where the upcoming Cybertruck shines. With a 3mm thick (roughly 1/8th of an inch, roughly 2 quarters stacked together) SS skin the body will repel virtually all door ding encounters in parking lots.

That’s concoevably the ONLY way the monstrosity of a Cybertruck would shine over anything currently the road today.

I have rock rails on our various Jeeps. But they still miss those pointy rear doors with little kids getting out that are all hopped up on Mt Dew.

Where I live they ask if there are fatalities, otherwise you drag your (and their) ass in to the station for a report. I had a student driver gouge the entire length of my car with her side mirror as I patiently stood - immobile - in the left turn lane. There was a cop two cars behind her and he couldn't be bothered to stop.
