I don't get the point in peaking so high.

It looks like a typical Tesla marketing curve, really high peak, then it drops really fast.

The article says this was at a 600w charger in Europe. Further down it says that someone in the US hit 330kW at a v4 SC, of which there are very few. Less than 20 by most accounts.

Ya, I saw that to but the truck is capable. I saw the charge speed on the Silverado is quite good as well. I still think that would have been a nice upgrade for Gen2, I would take that over a semi-dimming roof :)

I agree it will be nice to have someday, but the charging infrastructure in the US is not even close to being able to accommodate that charging speed so it would be a wasted feature for now. My guess is we are probably 4-5 years from it being a regular thing. Maybe more?

You mean like our 220kW that lasts for only a short while?
I’ve only charged at a level 3 charger four times in the two years I’ve had my R1T. Each time it pulled north of 200kw peak but stayed close to that for the bulk of the charging time.

Well by all accounts it will be from c.10% to mid 20’s so not really the bulk of a proper full charging session.

Nah, I've done 18-55 in 15 minutes at a RAN, onboarding a little over 50kWh, and basically holding 200kW for the full 15min. It really does hold 180kW to about 60%, and under 20% it hits the CCS limits, but 20-55 will generally be over 200kW if you got good temps. When I road trip I usually try to keep it under 60% and that means my stops are all under 20min if the charger cooperates.

Was hoping Gen2 vehicles from Rivian would have better charge rates. Maybe R2 will get upgraded charge speeds
The issue is they are capped by CCS at the low end. They'd need to do NACS to boost those numbers. I suspect NACS will therefore get you higher peak speeds. Unfortunately, practically all the NACS stations today are superchargers, and while they can do 250kW (and gen2 native NACS might take that), I don't think they'll charge any faster on a v3 supercharger as they already struggle with the current 500A sustained.
