We've been waiting for our R1S dual motor for about 1.5 years. Last update said July/Aug '23, but then like the others still waiting, we got the email in July that said the next update would come in August. Our email this week now said "confirm your configuration" and with this confirmation, please confirm your address to ship the charger and by doing so you also lose your deposit. Does this mean it's actually close? I ask because our 2nd car died in May and we've been OK for the summer with just one, but with school and more activities starting, we're really needing that second. If we confirm the configuration, lose our deposit and then they come back with "January 2024" or something along those lines, we'd be frustrated. That said, it sounds like this update has more potential so I'm asking for others who have accepted delivery, was this the email that came before being assigned a Guide and accepting delivery?

When I got the “confirm your configuration “email it was the next day after that I got the “it’s time to begin the purchase process” email. So your wait may be over. ?

I got the same email but no sign of next steps starting.

You don't lose your deposit ever, it goes towards the purchase price of the car. It doesn't become non refundable until your vehicle is either built or in production. It seems like these days Rivian isn't requiring config lock until your vehicle is built. Back when I got mine it asked for config lock and my steps opened up a day later. However, it was still a month or so until my vehicle was made and the better part of two months until I took delivery.

Either way config lock means no more pushbacks and that Rivian has your vehicle on their schedule.

Does anyone know what the current order fee is that Rivian charges or if they are charging one?

While the $1,000 may technically go to the cost of the vehicle are they increasing the fees besides MSRP?

Tesla used to apply the $100 deposit but one day started charging a $100 order fee to the cost, effectively just taking the $100.

Hopefully Rivian isn't following this deceptive practice.

There has been no indication of Rivian doing this anywhere.

Great. We'll do this today then. This sounds promising ...

Correct. I guess "lose" wasn't the right word, unless we confirm, get a date that's very far out and then ultimately cancel it. Thanks so much. Seems like this is a more promising step ...

What was your configuration? Do you have a dual motor or quad?

While I also got the email to confirm your configuration, I did not get a delivery date. When we purchased our R1T, the date was set before I started the purchase.

I was curious if this was a change in the process. I always thought that they needed a delivery date to complete the process.

I never got an email but I logged in this past week and saw the message asking me to confirm my configuration. I've been trying to figure out the same thing. I'd really love a first mile drive before locking this in. Still on the fence about a big purchase having never driven the thing or really explored the space inside. I mean how many times have you ordered clothes online and then discovered you don't look nearly as good as the model when you put them on in person? What if the Rivian accentuates my love handles?
