Sigh. They aren't charging you for Spotify. They are charging you for the 5G connection. As others have said, use the hotspot from your phone if you don't want to pay for in vehicle data.
4g LTE only.

can’t believe rivian is charging for Spotify. Give me a break. I have it on my phone. Give us APPLE CAR PLAY. I’d pay for Apple CarPlay, then I’d have Spotify and WAZE. had been a great suv R1s. Have had no problems and I’ve had it a year and a half 20,000 miles. Will be the last vehicle I get without Apple CarPlay. I have a motorhome and it comes with Apple car play. Come on Rivian get
With the program. Sure is a step backwards having to mount your phone next to the big screen.
Wow!
Rivian has said no to CarPlay for a long time. Get over it.
Rivian doesn’t charge for Spotify. You pay Spotify for their service or use the free ad supported version.
Rivian now charges for the LTE connection, which they said they would confirm day one. You are welcome to hotspot from your phone (if your plan allows it), to use Spotify in your Rivian without paying for connect +
Do some research, manage your reasonable expectations and stop whining on social media forums

The amount of people who don't understand how this works is incredible.

Rivian is not charging your for spotify. it's using the spotify account that you're already subscribed to. If you don't have spotify, then use Apple music or tidal or amazon. Not that complicated.

If you're talking about paying for connect +, then just link your phone to the car as a wifi hotspot and you get just about everything just using your phone's data. Not that difficult.

A Lot of companies are going away from Apple CarPlay since they can integrate their systems AND 3rd part apps in a way that's better for their ecosystem. Tesla, Rivian, GM, Lucid, and a lot of other companies are going against using CarPlay or Android Auto.

Ultimately what car you buy next is up to you, but if you're willing to sacrifice everything else you'd like in a new car because it doesn't have CarPlay then you're walking out on a lot of options in the future.
If so many people have a hard time understanding, it seems like a communication issue with Rivian, no?

Why do so many people think that wireless internet is free like oxygen?

Someone posted how to use the shortcuts app and setup an automatic connection to our Rivian….. it’s simply genius and seamless, and all the screen apps work just no 3D maps. 0 regrets about not paying for connect+, sure the live cam is cool but not worth the price to me personally.

No. The problem is 100% on the complainants. The message has been clear and consistent from day one.

There were multiple articles out there before Rivian even delivered a single vehicle calling it a membership and that it would be free for 12 months. But Rivian is so evil they actually extended that another 10 months for everyone… ?

https://insideevs.com/news/534381/rivian-membership-program/

Lots of other membership perks will be available in the future, including community meetups, “in-cabin content” (infotainment video games akin to Tesla, perhaps?) and even new drive modes. Rivian did not say how much membership will cost once your complimentary 12 months are up, but expect to find out soon.

I feel like enough people have replied to this.

Rivian has been extremely open about their entire plans and the reason's why they aren't doing CarPlay. From just about day 1 when they were taking reservations for the cars before any were delivered. They gave us heads up before passing on Connect + and even said that if you didn't want to pay for connect plus, then you can happily use your phone as a wifi hotspot and even added into the software patches to make it easier for you do do so. If you didn't know, that's 100% on you at this point.

Also, if you own a $100k car, you can pay for the internet service for it.
This. Absolutely this. The entitlement is incredible. $100k for a car is nothing, but god forbid i pay an OPTIONAL $15 a month to get some things.

Same argument as "my car only comes with a 3 month Sirius subscription and now they expect me to pay $10 a month for it!!" Not a single car company gives away internet data for free. You get a trial, then it's on you whether or not you want to continue the trial. I've had Mercedes's, BMW's, VW's, Audi's, and my last car was a Jeep Wrangler. All had trials for connections. Hell, Audi charged like $25 a month just to have google maps on the virtual cockpit and google search in the nav.
