Quick shout out to OpenSource EV & their replacement wheel caps. Found them on a Google search, not knowing they are a sponsor here (@RWerksman , I believe?). $15 for 4 hubs (vs $25 ea at Rivian) to replace the aero covers. You pop out the Compass logo from the aero covers and pop them into the mounts, then pop them into the center hub.

First one took 5 minutes. Next 3 took 5 minutes total:

Looks sharp! Have you noticed any decrease in range/efficiency?
Literally put them in this morning. Will try to pay attention this week. I know it’s a 7% drop commute (each way), so not sure how much difference there will be. May have to wait for another long trip.

Center wheel caps! Here I was thinking how the heck did they make center locking hubs.

I still consider it a crime that Rivian did not make the stock 21" wheel cover's center cap pop out and become the rim's center cap. This is either an egregious error on their part (considering they are supposed to be so eco-friendly) or pure greed to sell an overpriced $25/cap option. The Opensource option wasn't available when I got my R1S so I had purchased to Rivian $100 "solution"

Agreed. When I picked mine up a year ago, I saw the caps in the “showroom”. I thought “for $25, maybe I’ll grab a set”. Then I realized they were $25 each, not for a set of 4. Pass.

Me too, man. It's really silly that something like this are required to make that happen.

Past posts show hardly any difference
They have very little difference. I done testing aero covers installed / removed at one point (there might be a post from me about it) and identical trips on the same day had near-as-enough identical consumption. I'd wager that the difference is <10 miles total if you ran through an entire max pack.

I few things I feel like I need to note:
  • These are just the mounts for the center caps from the aero covers, and don't include the caps themselves. We've listed it on every picture, in the description, and it's contained in the reviews too, but some folks miss that.
  • These can be reused (if you want to swap back and forth) but you'll need to be very gentle with them. It's the reason why we sell singles, not just the 4-pack.
  • They were originally designed by someone on the forum years back. They weren't quite right, and scaled totally wrong, but they had an open license on them, and I was able to remix them lightly to sell them. I just want people to know that someone else is the real MVP here, or at least the OG.
  • Finally, for people asking, they are available here: https://opensourceev.com/products/center-cap-mount-r1t-and-r1s-21-wheels

Yeah, that’s why I made a point of mentioning “popping out the Compass logo” in my original post. I read the reviews, and saw the one you’re referring to, so I was prepared.

Might get. How hard are they to remove? I'm guessing hard. Ask because I like the look around town w/o the stock areo so can see the yellow brakes. But put the areo back on for long trips. Can see getting this cap off as hard /impossible as the areo blades put the existing ones on it free.
