Rivian will never make that mistake again. You can’t even pre-order a Rivian with pricing anymore, only visualize it. It’s all to avoid bait-and-switch liability by the FTC. Zero percent chance Rivian will honor any soft-preorder prices thrown around informally for the R2.

Maybe. But they did do it on the R1 so I’ll give them credit for that.

IMO, the larger problem for Tesla is the whole "FSD" debacle that is now starting to rear it's ugly head.

Plus the various investigations going on in the US and other countries regarding Tesla having required thousands of owners to pay for suspension repairs that should have been covered by warranty.

Also, potential unionization issues.

Yeah, a lot of Tesla's chicken are starting to come home to roost. And, it's kind of open season on taking pot shots at Tesla too, so whether false or factual, they will need to defend all these claims against them. Their time being the untouchable golden child of the automotive industry is over.

Not the same as a preorder but I noted that when I configured my R1S a couple of weeks ago, the message said we locked in the price so we are protected.
