I am on the wait list for an R1T. Specs are fully configured and confirmed...should be 1-3 months. However, I am now beginning to see quite a few used R1T's for sale online with very few miles and for much less money. Can anyone chime in as to the pros and cons of getting a slightly used R1T instead of brand new?

I don’t see any cons. If you can find a config that’s close to yours for less money why not? It’s under warranty since it’s low miles so you’re covered. If anything the used models will have options your new model won’t have since they’ve been removed, namely Meridian audio system, frunk 12V, interior 12V, powered tonneau, wood accent on back of driver and passenger front seats, I’m sure I’m missing a few others..

Not any cons other than you can’t take advantage of the tax credit. If you see one you like, grab it unless you just really want it to be brand new.

I bought 2 in the used market because I was tired of waiting. T picked up with less than 300 miles, S picked up with 89 miles.

Other than dealing with a transfer of ownership and not getting the guide/new delivery experience, I see no downsides.

I still have my order for my truck, which I’ve waited for over a year for, but it will likely be canceled soon.

Good morning. My first post on the site.
I got a used R1T LE and here is what I went through.
1. Once you purchase the vehicle, you will need to contact Rivian and find out who is the Guide to the vehicle. (The previous only turned in the Key Fob. No key cards or Wrist Key)

2. Once you get the guide info, you will need to provide a copy of the bill of sale, front & back of your driver’s license. I also included the title request form as well.

3. Guide will say it takes 7-10 days to transfer ownership to your name. ( the previous owner can still access your vehicle since the key cards and key band is still tied to the vehicle, possible location as well)

4.Once the vehicle is transferred over, you will see it on your Rivian App now. They (Rivian service) transferred all the keys to me under the driver keys ( but still do not have them physically and had the same serial numbers) so I deactivated them in the app and ordered 2 new cards and a key band.

5. State safety inspection. If your state requires a safety inspection, ( I bought the vehicle in Virginia and registering in Maryland) make sure the Tint is compliant, and also the stations doing the inspection may say they can’t find the specs on the vehicle. Let them know the brake rotor specs are stamped on the rotors. Also get the 4 jack pucks before the inspection.

6. Enjoy your vehicle and wait for the plates to arrive.

I bought used and haven't had any issues or regrets. Do I feel like maybe I missed out on the experience of picking up a new truck directly from Rivian? Maybe. Did I get my truck far earlier with now discontinued features, and (slightly) less than MSRP? Yes I did!

That's what my guide told me, as well. Mine was transferred in less than 24 hours.

Man! I wish it was 24hrs for me, The Guide had me waiting at least 7 days until I called and asked how can I Purchase replace keycards and Key band. Then within a few hours and the latest update, it finally transferred over.

What I like about the used process is that the former owner bought all kinds of accessories(2x crossbars, 2x bike holders, 1x surfboard holder), ceramic coating, window tint, snap plate front license plate holder, mobile charger, Rivian field kit, no spare tire though

The best part of buying used is that you get to see it and drive it before you pay for it. Just like a normal vehicle.

The only thing I got extra was the discontinued tonneau cover, and a couple of scratches on the plastic on the back of the center console. ;)

Just some things I see people selling after they sold the truck, so if buying used I would make sure all the equipment is there.
1) Camp speaker
2) Floor mats
3) Gear guard security cable
4) Flash light in driver door

Might as well add:

5) First Aid Kit
6) Compressor Hose
7) Key Fob, 2 Keycards, 1 Bracelet (if Launch Edition)
8) Spare tire + kit (Jack, Puck, Base, holder board+threaded rod) if so equipped

Thanks for this list. I’m still considering a used R1T to replace my wrecked one. I really do want to buy new but the price difference between used and new is pretty big. Also, if I buy used, I think I can get a Launch Green. :)
