Agreed, and that's where local clubs and DIYers come in. Clubs can purchase these tools and share them, DIYers like us can poke and pry to figure out best servicing practices... At least until someone ponies up the big bucks for a service manual and shares it.I watched the tech unplug and plug in my 12v battery 3 times when it was all disconnected for service. He didn't seem worried.
I don't understand why cars have basically become unserviceable! It's a tough adjustment for someone what has never brought their car to a shop. I've done all my service on all my cars head to toe. For my lexus I got the toyota tech software so I can perform some hidden functions.
I wouldn't mind buying tools but not if it's $500 for each tool vs $500 for one tool that does all.
Edit to add:
I have a SMART SENSOR TPMS programmer I happily share with anyone on here, save a few bucks over OEM ones. I used to use a mechanic's shop on base for my Land Rover before COVID shut it down, with lifts and pullers and all the tools you need. I'm hoping it comes back... And they get a lift strong enough for the Rivian haha.
