I'm observing something unusual with fast-charge preconditioning following the latest update.

I was driving from PA to VT yesterday with two fast-charging stops planned. With both of them, my R1T did not precondition the battery before arrival, and then after both charging sessions, as I was driving away from the charger, it gave me the "Battery Preconditioning" message on my screen. Like, the vehicle only recognized that I was planning to fast-charge after it was complete.

Has anyone else experienced this?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I haven’t seen this, but that’s clearly a bug. I would give the infotainment a reset and see if that helps.

I’ve been having weird interface issues as well. And many others are reporting problems sending directions to the Nav. Something is borked in the last update, so we’ll hopefully get some baseline fixes in the next release.

Was your charge rate affected? Did you note battery temps before and during charing?

I didn't, didn't really put 2+2 together until after the first stop, and then didn't think of what you're suggesting before the second.

I honestly didn't feel like charge rate was affected though - but I also didn't "feel" the typical preconditioning activity, especially the ramp-up I often notice as I approach the charger.

I'm driving back to PA on Tuesday with similar stops planned, I'll see how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It could be that previously the vehicle was over-preconditioning to a state that is no longer necessary, and on this instance the vehicle determined it wasn't required to get the same charge rate and thus it didn't precondition as you expected.

If your charge rate was affected by an overly cold battery, then I'd absolutely say that's a new issue that should be resolved. If your charge rate was normal and assumedly the battery health wasn't negatively affected during your charge, then I'd suggest this is actually something positive.

On my return trip from VT to PA, the same behavior occurred. I'm going to contact Rivian today, but thought I'd share this update in case anyone's interested or in case others observe similar behavior.

No preconditioning before fast-charging stop #1. Charging there did actually go fine, but literally as I pulled away, the "preparing battery for fast charging" appeared on the screen.

As I drove, the battery temp climbed. It was at 121 as I was leaving, I think it got up into the 140's or 150's? The "preparing battery" message remained on for probably 90 minutes, but the battery temp gradually declined after reaching a peak, and then the message went away. When it went away, I was maybe 45 minutes away from fast-charging stop #2, and when I got there the battery temp was 71-degrees.

So basically, doing exactly the opposite of what I think it's supposed to do .
