I am not a patient person, so waiting for the R2 has me looking around at what else is out there. It is also not coming out in Red Canyon, which really sucks lol and no, I'm not a "just wrap it" kind of guy.

Anyway, when shopping for my first EV, the Lyriq was on my shortlist but ultimately didn't make the cut due to charging speeds and lack of frunk. PAAK also wasn't a thing, which is a huge deal breaker for me. Despite all that, it has always been a vehicle I've been fond of because I love the styling and always wanted a Caddy.

Debating getting a new Lyriq-V as a more long term vehicle or a used Lyriq to hold me over until the R2.

Does anyone own/has had one that can speak to the ownership experience? I can live without the frunk and it wouldn't be the road trip vehicle so I can live with the so-so charge times. Any other dealbreakers or endorsements (driving experience, luxury, comfort, etc)?

No direct experience but I keep getting the itch every now and then as I love my CTS-VSport. PAAK is supposed to be coming soon. Though I hear they have halfshaft issues just like Rivian and there were also a bunch of improvements to DC fast charging but no idea how well it works now.

Have had a few come through. Very impressive car for what it is and built very well. Too plush of a ride for me personally. Biggest issue I have is the UI/interface. Better than most, however doesn't come anywhere close to Tesla or Rivians UI and still feels like any regular GM product.

Regardless of us being on here as a sponsor, I'd take an inexpensive Gen 1 R1T or even a used Model Y as a bridge car until R2.

It has always worked out that Cadillac was a runner up in my vehicle decisions. The CTS-Vsport was on my shortlist for my vehicle replacement a few cars ago, but those were hard to find. I considered a CTS-V but those still carry a huge price tag and concerning repair cost if something went wrong. I've always wanted a Caddy but somehow always talked myself out of one.

Might test drive one today to get the itch out. I hope I hate it so I can move on and just keep waiting for the R2, but I doubt it as every time I see a Lyriq, my eyes wander for a bit too long.

We have a Model Y and it has become the primary vehicle in our household. Interface and reliability being the main reason. It just works every time and performs as expected. Everything you said though has been the conversation in my household. My wife thinks I would hate the Lyriq because of the UI and the endless chimes and chirps from GM products, so I'm trying to talk myself out of it as much as talking myself into it at the same time. It is a really good looking vehicle but maybe still too compromised.

Thanks for the feedback! Basically confirms my expectations.

Would recommend seeing if you can take it for an extended test drive to be sure you can "live" with it. I was obsessed with the Lyriq when we got our first one in. However after a day or two of driving it, that quickly wore off.

I know its smaller but Optiq maybe a better choice, especially if its intended as a short term filler vehicle.

I prefer the aesthetics of the Lyriq more. The price delta between the two is not as big as one would imagine either. Looked at it briefly but for an extra few thousand dollars, I'd much prefer the Lyriq.

I saw one parked at the dog park parking lot today (and parked next to it,) and it looked nice enough. Is that the experience you're looking for? :p

Basically my experience so far as well lol seeing it driving in traffic, pointing at it and acknowledging how nice it is, and then going on about my day. They did a homerun on the design department.

I have an Acura ZDX which uses the same platform and much of the technology and was built on the same production line as the Lyriq.

Charging speeds could be an issue at a public charger. Took me about 45 minutes from 10-80%. At home with a level 2 is no issue. I loved my ZDX (my significant other drives it now), my first EV, but I feel I’ve outgrown it. No frunk, slow charging, the overall technology seems lacking. Maybe it’s me but GM doesn’t seem to be keeping pace. I believe the Lyriq at best is 310 miles range (RWD), maybe 300 otherwise.

I wouldn’t get another EV on a temp basis until the R2 arrives unless you just put your name on the list and don’t own a Rivian today.

I test drove one. The car did not feel like a luxury brand; everything was a bit cheap/flimsy-feeling. I really wanted to like it.

A couple months into owning my R1S I was Rear ended by one at a stop light. It randomly lurched forward and the driver insisted he didn't do anything to make the car lurch forward. My R1S was dirvable and repairable. The lyric looked like it was totaled. So I am not sure about the Lyric build quality or software.

We own a '26 Sierra EV AT4. The platform and hardware are solid. The software is horrendous. If we didn't also have a Rivian maybe it wouldn't be so frustrating. Every time I get in the truck only to discover my key fob is in the kitchen drawer I start cussing like a drunk sailor. The Lyriq experience is likely the same. I don't believe GM is fully committed to the Ultium platform.

In addition to PAAK our truck is supposed to have the Surround Vision Recorder mentioned in the manual. We don't even have the Apple Music app yet even though I had our dealer update all the modules. The '27s will be out soon and I have no hopes our truck will ever get the features we paid for or the OTA updates GM bragged about.

Personally, I would steer clear of the Lyric unless you can get 30k off MSRP.

Yeah this basically sums up my fears. I think I'm in the same boat. I know what a good EV is and the Lyriq sounds like a good car but not a great EV. I don't think I can live with the compromises long term.

Shame, the ZDX and Lyriq are both lookers. With some software upgrades, better packaging for a frunk and 800V architecture, they'd be back in the game IMO

Thank you for the input.
