Anyone else seeing this kind of efficiency? It’s been steadily going downhill from 2.1 3 weeks ago, prior to the latest update and colder temperatures in the Seattle area, to 1.53 this week! I charged to 70% Sunday night, drove a total of 53.8 miles, and was down to 37% tonight (equivalent of having driven 90 miles)

this is my first EV. Is this to be expected? Driving routines and routes have not changed. (I know, I have to wipe my screen)

I've been seeing terrible efficiency lately as well. Usually ~2.69mi/kWh for my commute. Lately it's been ~1.8mi/kWh and the temp is in the low 50s to high 40s.

Have you experienced this kind of change before? (If you’ve had prior EVs) Do you think this is mostly due to weather changes?

It is within my expectations based on my past ev. Our summer efficiency on the R1T was around 2.6. Now that we are in the 20s-30s it is around 1.9 to 2.0.

I assume you are on the AT tires?

our i3 efficiency would drop 20-40% in the cold.

I’ve seen a drastic drop on my kona as well. Up here in Vancouver. I was typically only charging 2 times a week during the summer and spring but now that it’s colder and I’m running the heater I’m charging about every 2 days. To be expected. The battery heater has also been kicking on lately as well.

My efficiency has dropped as well, but that's to be expected. Colder weather here in Wisconsin combined with use of the cabin heater means efficiency is going to drop. I should also check my tire pressures as I'm sure they've gone down a couple of PSI with the temperature change.

I don't see it as a problem, but I can understand the surprise a first time EV owner might have.

Thanks! Yes, AT’s

If it is also wet, there will be an additional efficiency hit. There isn’t much you can do about it aside from avoiding high speeds and keeping the tire pressure in its nominal range. With the i3, preheating the cabin before unplugging helps. But for the R1T, I’m not sure you would notice. Still, worth trying.

Colder temperature and high speed (with the square-faced Rivians) are the biggest enemies of efficiency. I averaged 1.47 mi/kWh in 2300 miles since delivery. That's all I can say... :lipssealed:

Well, except towing, of course.

This is my first EV, so I'm trying to manage my expectations. But since the weather here is still very mild, I don't think that all of the efficiency loss can be attributed to the temperature.

I think my efficiency gauge has been kinda janky since the last update but yeah... Since temps have dropped below 40, my miles/kWh has taken a dive.

Colder temperatures definitely affect range.

If I lived in a climate zone where it snows I would not have considered a BEV. The DC battery technology is not quite there yet.

Efficiency will drop drastically in the winter months. Battery is trying to stay warm and the cabin heater is not efficient.

Worked for Tesla Service for over 4 years and winter range was a normal complaint.

I haven't seen such a drastic efficiency hit. I'm also on 20 ATs and in the Eastside. Over the past 190 miles, since I plug in every night, I've seen anywhere from 1.87 at worst to 2.63 mi/kwh.

I've been driving EV's since 2012. Over 10 winters time- for me a 30% range loss is a good number to use for North Eastern winters.
