I have a weird issue that came up after swapping from the 22” Range Wheels that came on my 2025 R1S Dual Max Performance to a set of 20” Dark Rivian Wheels with Nokian winter tires. The adaptive cruise control will not follow at the correct distance, when I set it to the closest following distance it remains further away and never closes the gap. Not sure if anyone has experienced this or has a solution, the soonest service appointment is at the end of December… The only thing that I can think of is the software was updated for the new wheels and tires, showing 20” wheels with aftermarket winter tires. Would this force it never follow at the correct distance?

Have you validated that all four tires are the same size - seems like a silly question, but I’ve seen that happen before.

I can attest that changing your wheels and tire size should not have this result, having changed my wheels and tires are far more often than the average bear.

Coincidental is what I would guess. Adaptive cruise following distance shouldn't have anything to do with swapping to a different tire size. Unless they, in software, assumed winter tires require longer braking distance and compensated for it. Did you try a hard reset?

I've had lots of non-standard wheels and tires on my Rivians, and have never experienced anything strange. Some folks have had issues and it ended up being that they don't have four matching tires. Even having one of the snow tires mounted backwards didn't cause issues.

I just double checked the tires, all match and are the same size with the correct rotational direction. They were purchased from TireRack, NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA R5 SUV 275/60R20 XL 116T. They were
installed at the Rivian service center.

I also had the outstanding recalls taken care of at this visit where they removed the front fascia to replace the directional indicators, headlamp module replacements, and also the ting washers.

I’m wondering if something got out of calibration with the front fascia removal.

Talk about burying the lede my guy…. 🤦‍♂️
Haha valid… I forgot they did the recalls until I looked over the service ticket. I guess it’s par for the course for Rivian to attempt to fix something and break another. Luckily they’ll get to it in a month and a half…

I wonder if the software limits the following distance if winter tires are selected since braking distances increase in low friction conditions. (SoCal owner, so no winter tire swap here) I’d try to choose a non winter tire on the menu (in non slippery conditions) and see if the following distance changes.

I have had the same problem, it's hit and miss after the last update.

Same boat, it does seem to be an issue after the last update. When I'm stopped at a traffic light it also shows my truck as halfway inside the vehicle in front of me.
