The EV charging companies know all the following:
  • Which of their chargers are available (or they should...)
  • Which speeds their chargers support
  • What type of car is being plugged in, and thus what speeds it can support
So EV charger company could just flash up a message on the station "Your car cannot make full use of this station, please move to charger 03 or 04, which are available". Doesn't require them to implement load-sharing (which is a huge change, costly). Just a "simple" SW change. And it will educate the EV customers, so next time they will pull into the correct port.

In defense of the Bolt owner, are you sure the 150 kW stations were operational?

My i3s maxes out at 50 kW but there have been times where I will be forced to use a higher rated charger at the same location because I can’t get any of the appropriately rated chargers to work.

Point is, it is more complicated than EV owners not being courteous.
