This is a very nice update.

"With the next software update, we’re adding realtime charger availability and speeds into Rivian’s navigation and mobile app, plus Plug & Charge for two popular networks: Electrify America and IONNA. You’ll be able to see more information about a stop and then seamlessly charge and pay at Electrify America’s more than 5,000 stations as well as all IONNA Rechargeries. "

Huge deal! Most of my charger issues on more than 10k miles worth of road tripping have been around charger activation. Plug and Charge removes some of the hassle and unreliability from the equation. They don't mention anything about it, but I hope they eventually gain the ability to use PnC with charging network memberships to help save users money as well as making things more convenient. The inability to use PnC *and* a membership with Tesla has been annoying...enough that I haven't bothered to do the membership on trips where I've used a lot of Tesla SCs just for the ease of use. Having network/charger status will be a big deal on holiday road trips. That ought to mean that busy stations in areas where there are other options will be avoided by the route planner to hopefully mean less waiting around. Traveling over Xmas and New Years was especially painful the past two years with EA stations getting overcrowded and before we had access to the Tesla network.

I'm just happy to see that EA stall count/use is finally arriving.

Likely still won't be any indication on if or how many people are sitting around waiting for a charge.

Not the news team leaking 2025.38 before it's released!

I agree, being able to use a membership with plug and charge would be huge. My latest trip I started all of my SC charges from the Tesla app, I saved more than $200 on the trip using the Tesla membership.

Curious, do you usually find that to be a problem? In my travels once I’m away from the East and West coastal states I find the chargers to be very open.

I try not to travel on the most popular holiday travel days, but I've experienced it a few times. I just skip that stop though. It's nice to have options nowadays.

The biggest problem I had with having to wait was around the Chicago area and ironically in Normal, IL. More chargers have come online since then and we now have Tesla access, so who knows how much better it'll be now. But really it's holiday travel when many more people are on the roads in EVs and traveling the same major highway corridors. In Chicago I think it was travel merging with the large number of folks lacking home charging, so stations were extra busy.

If people are waiting, wouldn’t it show up as “full”?

I am wondering if this has to be an OS update vs just something they can update on their side. atleast adding new sites; for new “capabilities”, I understand

The screenshot from the linked article shows an EA station with the number of stall available. That's a pretty good indication.

Well yeah. How would you expect them to get that data? Satellite imagery?
