Updated and Improved OEM Rivian Sunshade (August 2025) -- Pictures and Brief Review

I ordered the Rivian Sunshade the day the Gear Shop had them back in stock in early August and just received it yesterday. Some folks have been asking about it, so I took a few pictures and want to answer a big question I have seen (either here or on Reddit): yes, the strap is now stitched into the shade itself. And, the end piece that attaches the strap when folded is also stitched.

My overall assessment: it's a great sunshade. Very well made, rigid materials and construction, easy to put in place, and it fits exactly as I would expect it to (on a 2024 R1T).

Here are a few pics. If you're on the fence about it, I suggest buying it. I think it's really nice and high quality.

I have this same one and the glue holding the velcro pieces on to the end of the strap has melted in the hot Texas sun. Had to stitch new velcro on to the end of that strap. It's a pretty ridiculous that they glued those two little strips to the end, unless you are saying its different now.

I'll check the velcro on the end of the tie-down strap. If it is only glued I'll cross stitch the velcro in place.

The Rivian shade looks very nice. I have the Covercraft UVS100 which is almost identical but without the Rivian logo or velcro strap (they have an optional bag for storage which is what I keep it in during the winter when I toss it in the frunk). The Covercraft shade is currently available significantly cheaper at $85 (without storage bag, $99 with).

I only use Covercraft for my vehicles at this point. I have purchased several of them for various cars and couldn’t be happier with them. Construction is top quality and haven’t seen any issues with ones I’ve had for several years.

And it's a single large patch of velcro, rather than multiple oblong shaped patched bonded to the elastic strap.

Tip: Don't leave the shield folded and strapped in hot environment, then you won't need to worry about the oblong tabs falling off (i.e. no tension). This will also save the elastic strap from being permanently stretched. I've done two summers with mine and don't have issues, other than the slight bend the shield now has, from its own weight, which is expected.

I guess I have v1.0 with the glued on 3 oblong velcro pieces at the end. One of them melted off so I applied some crazy glue. Working so far...

This is way faster to use than the folding ones, and much smaller too. Perfect fit with the large.

I fold it up, strapped or not (depends on how much of a hurry I am), and just lay it on the floor behind the front seats. I usually don't have passengers. If I do, there's the frunk and gear tunnel.
