I don't think I have seen an official post on this specific campaign. I can confirm replacing the steering wheel back in 2023 and getting road force balanced couple times got rid of all my shaking between 60 mph - 80 mph on all terrain wheels.

Make sure the stitching and finishing on the new steering wheel meets your standards. I have seen some wheels where the stitching could've been better.

RSB-10-23-001-1: Steering Wheel Vibration Rivian is launching a technical service bulletin for some model year 2022 and 2023 R1T and R1S vehicles. In some situations, the driver may notice a slight vibration or oscillation of the steering wheel at 70 mph or above, causing a perceived quality issue. Steering function is not affected. Upon customer complaint of a vibrating steering wheel, Rivian will replace the steering wheel with a version that is less prone to vibration.

After the steering wheel replacement, find the best daytime / head technician at Discount Tire and have them road force balance your tires into the teens and you should have a much better experience.

You can also schedule an appointment to make it easier to take care of installing your tires or doing tire rotations / balancing using the below link to make appointments.

Discount Tire Create Appointment Link for Install, Maintenance or to purchase Tire Protection Plan

Road force balancing is a tire balancing method that simulates the weight of the vehicle on the tire as it rolls down the road, applying up to 1,200 pounds of pressure.

This process helps identify and resolve hidden vibrations caused by imbalances that a standard balance might miss.

While there isn't a single "perfect" road force number, most shops aim for values below 15-20 lbs, with anything over 40 lbs considered unacceptable

You can check out the most recent Discount Tire Promotions plus local install options are available with having access to one of the best balancer on the market.

Discount tire is trained to work on Rivians and typically most stores have pucks to help lift your vehicle.

I love Hunter Road Force balancer pretty much available at most discount tires and most bays have now been converted. I remember the days when only 1 or 2 machines were road force balancer. Rivian uses a similar road force balancer to try to get the tires down into the teens for the least amount of steering wheel vibrations / body / seat vibrations. Also make sure if you have done the heavier steering wheel replacement to help cut down on steering wheel shake.

Benefits of Road Force Balancing - Similar balancer Rivian uses.

Here is a good thread on F-150 lightning forums about getting Discount Tire to use the matching capabability when performing road force balancing. Maybe bring this up to a manager at Rivian or Discount Tire and see if they can perform this for you as well.

I have found that discount tire is not using their Hunter Road Force balancers properly. The machine is capable of road force MATCHING, but the process is time consuming and the guys don’t like doing it. Road force matching indexes the tire to the wheel and requires the bead to be broken and the tire repositioned on the wheel before final balancing with weights. Basically the spin is done twice, first to index the tire with the wheel, then again to balance the now ideal combo.
Done properly the weight required to balance is little to none. Twice I’ve caught them skipping the matching step and just balancing on the first spin. It’s not right, but nobody is paying attention and calling them out on it. I had to call the manager out and confront him, and he then personally did my tires properly.

The first spin actually gives them a prediction of the improvement indexing the tire to wheel will achieve. And they just skip it. The young guys are not actually trained on full use of the machine.
It’s pathetic. Huge difference when done right.

Thanks for sharing this. I think I’m affected by this issue. Have had a slight but noticeable vibration that seemed unrelated to tires or brake rotors. Some of the vinyl is coming off my 2023 steering wheel much sooner than I would expect. A replacement would resolve both issues.

My steering wheel has always been slightly cockeyed. When I originally asked about realigning splines, I was told it was fine... But it's clearly not. Perhaps requesting this campaign will get them to properly align it.

I took delivery back in June 2023 and had the steering wheel replaced and road force balanced/alignment done twice within 6months of getting my car. It reduced the vibration like 85%.

I was always told by SC below

1. It’s normal over 70+ mph
2. It’s a big vehicle and 22 inch wheels cause this. (Kinda like your choice of wheels was wrong)
3. We are NOT allowed drive the vehicle over 70+ mph to test and replicate

Rivian has been replacing the steering wheel with a heavier one for quite some time now. That’s probably the fix, for those who still have the lightweight one

I thought the Arizona speed limit was 75MPH. Maybe they should provide you with 20 inch wheels since it was a "design flaw".

It’s not about the speed limit but they always seem to say “they’re not allowed to drive a customers vehicle over 70mph”
That was the north PHX SC. I’m gonna try with the new Tempe location and see how it goes.

I've had a few warranty issues where I had to take the service writer/tech on ride myself to show them the problem that they couldn't find by themselves. The "Oh, yeah" reality check was worth the extra effort.

I'm surprised a slightly heavier steering wheel solves this.

Mine is inconsistent, and generally more often in the morning that I'll notice significant shudder of the wheel. (The PHX west bound 10's HOV has way to many bumps to really assess the shudder when going home) I don't remember ever having that issue with the 21" Pirellis or 22" Defenders, so I just assumed it was an issue with the Toyo Proxies' makeup. Like after it sits overnight in a "cool" 85F garage there's some flat spots for a bit.
Interesting the steering wheel could help the issue. Feels like a bandaid though...

Took it in a couple times for this vibration. On the first go they road-force balanced the tires, and it helped, but it never went away and seemed to get worse again. On the second go they finally installed the heavier/weighted steering wheel. That cured most of the vibration, though it's somewhat back again since I rotated the tires. The 20" AT Pirellis though have something like 27k miles so I'll probably just deal with it until we get around to replacing them.

A funny byproduct of the heavier steering wheel is that the steering itself is now heavier -- or it's at least noticeable when cranking the wheel at low speeds (e.g. parking). Never considered that aspect.

Interesting, I have this exact issue, very slight vibration when I take hands off or keep very light pressure on the wheel. If I apply more pressure like squeezing thumb and index fingers on one hand, it reduces considerably. Thanks for the post, will look into it if the road force balance doesn't fix it.

Been having this issue for a while. Thinking about bring it in for this TSB. Has anyone who has gotten this work done (steering wheel replacement) still have the vibration/shake after?

Would hate to leave it at the Brooklyn SC for multiple days for it to just not fix this issue.
