According to Rivian, the issue lies in one or both of the front turn signals failing to light up or flash as they should, which, unsurprisingly, isn’t exactly up to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The culprit? Turn signals sourced from Myotek in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which may have been improperly manufactured.

It’s unclear what may have been done wrong during the manufacturing of the turn signals, but they could suffer some kind of “internal failure.” If one or both of the turn signals stop working, a message will be displayed on the instrument cluster. The remaining turn signals will also start blinking twice as fast as they should, and the turn signal sound will accelerate.

A total of 27,882 vehicles are involved in the recall. These consist of R1S models manufactured between April 29, 2024, and May 13, 2025, as well as R1Ts that were built from July 10, 2024, to May 13, 2025. Rivian says it stopped using the suspect front turn signals on May 13.

Owners will be notified of the recall starting July 25, and dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles, replacing the turn signals if needed.

My 2025 front right was intermittently failing. It will warn you from the dash when it happens.

Got an appointment one week out and had it fixed same day at the Madison Heights service center ironically not too far from the manufacturer of the signal.

If you're too special to stick your arm out the window for hand signals, then don't drive. 😄
And, get off my lawn.

Why would amputees hang out on your lawn? There are those, you know, from the recent wars? And why shouldn't they move on with their lives and drive, if they still can with their remaining arm? ;)

Here’s the text of the letter:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Rivian Automotive, LLC has decided that certain model year 2025 Rivian R1S and R1T vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 - "Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. equipment." Our records show that you are the owner of a vehicle affected by this action.

What is the problem?

One or both front turn signal lamps may not illuminate and flash due to issues during manufacturing from a supplier, and, therefore, may not fulfill the requirements of FMVSS 108. Diminished front turn signal lamp performance may cause reduced awareness of the vehicle's intent to turn for road users in front of the vehicle. Reduced awareness of intent to turn may increase the risk of a crash.

What will Rivian do?

Rivian is working as quickly as possible to prepare the remedy plan to address this condition.

We will send you another letter via first-class mail once repairs can begin. The recall service will be available at no cost to you.

What should you do?

You will be notified when the remedy becomes available. At that time, you will be able to schedule this repair with your Rivian Service Center. Information about this recall and the status of the remedy plan is listed on our website.

Good ol' made-in-the-USA turn signals. Can't go wrong by avoiding all that foreign-made garbage ...

Good thing gen 2 turn signal is no longer part of the headlight assembly? Imagine cost of recall if it is. Salvaged gen 1 headlight is $400-$500. New, retail, twice that?

That's what I was just going to ask. Anybody received notice to get their headlights fixed? I love paying for "premium" stuff and then have it not work for months on end (mine don't properly function). Supposedly a fix for the squeaky door handles is coming sooooon also. Mine sound like they aren't going to present any day. I've sprayed two cans of dry lubricant inside the handle (as directed by service). Works for about a week. 🙄
