I feel like they nerfed the large pack a little too much. I mean, it does make the Max pack more of a value, but I think they're just going to end up losing sales because the large battery is now smaller and not everyone wants to upsell to max.

The interesting thing is the pack voltage on this Large pack is actually listed as being higher than any other Rivian pack. Quite curious how the charge rate compares to the other options.

Odd, if I put more efficient tires on my Gen 1 Standard+ pack I can get close to that. I'm getting 290 miles now on used 20's. And, charge to 100% :giggle:

Stop thinking weight is a direct contribution to range.....

Wind resistance and rolling resistance, the two biggest.

An extra passenger isn't going to decrease your range by 20%.
I agree that the weight probably doesn't matter much. I was just pointing out it is lighter and that would effect it some. I believe the EPA has very little constant speed driving. I suspect the weight loss would have very little benefit for highway range at 80 mph.

410 miles / 141.5 kwh = 2.9 miles/kwh
329 / 109.4 = 3.0 miles/kwh
3.0/2.9 = 1.038 aka 4% improvement

Where did you get 20% from? Did I use the wrong battery size?

Also, it's like 400 pounds lighter. So, maybe two passengers. :)

Strangely, the Standard+ pack is larger than the Gen2 Large pack.

I don't buy those numbers at all. I also agree the nerfed the large pack in the Gen 2. That was one of my considerations in not buying a G2 truck. Not a lot of spare capacity when camping or doing other things. Not to mention I didn't want to have to buy a max pack.

I had a R1T large pack and now a new dial motor Mac pack. I found the EPA numbers to be very accurate on both vehicles when driving in a way that represents the EPA test conditions.

*** The EPA is not saying you will get that range at continuous freeway speeds.

*** Rivian is not saying you will get that range at continuous freeway speeds.

*** I not saying you will get that range at continuous freeway speeds.

But if you do a route of mixed city/55 mph highway/freeway driving, which is what the EPA test is, you will get this range in warm weather.

Too many people think the EPA is a freeway speed range rating. It is not that.

Two points:

1)You don't have a Gen2 Large Pack. That's the one that most people are concerned about. It's great that your Gen1 Large meets EPA range numbers. But how does the Gen2 Large that has ~22kWh less battery meet those numbers?

2)Agree with you that mixed city/55 mph highway these cars(at least the Gen1 Large and Gen2 Max) can meet EPA numbers. But those numbers are sorta irrelevant. It makes little difference if your car gets 280miles or 320miles of range while driving around town. But "freeway speed range rating" is very important if you road trip and should be the number that most people consider when deciding on which vehicle to purchase.

Taking my first road trip in cold weather, hope the cold doesn’t make me lose too much! Going to set my arrival SOC a little higher just in case…. Just a note, driving 65 on the highway with cruise control on I do see the EPA numbers for the most part.
