I do find it just a wee bit commical that Rivian is accusing Bosch of substandard quality control.....

Maybe Bosch hadn't ordered enough wire?? Too soon?
I found it comical the comment at the end touching on that in the article. To be fair though, I think Rivian has the stronger case.

For the group, I do wonder how these sorts of things affect warranty coverage. Bosch supplies motor, Rivian provides the warranty, or Bosch provides the warranty on Rivians terms? Seemingly in the Munro teardowns the Bosch motor was really only the rotor, stator, and exterior casing, Rivian I believe handled the remaining drivetrain components and assembly?

As an 2023 R1S Quad owner and R2 on order, I want nothing but the best for Rivian, legally, or otherwise. Wonder what happens down the line with this dispute on who foots the bill or has to supply replacement motors if there are warranty claims?

so the Rivian flashlight is there for G1 Quad owners to do their own inspection? ;)
Supplied by Bosch Interns. One for every 4 motors.

The warranty obligation terms of the contract will still be in force regardless of this contested portion of the contract.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
“Instead, Bosch had apparently employed teenage interns to stand by the line holding flashlights for quality control,” Rivian’s lawsuit stated.

I mean, that's how I get random projects done around my house that are delayed, over-budget, and poorly constructed too.

This would have no bearing on the contractual agreement concerning warranty provisions of the contract.

I wonder if Rivian designed their in-house drivetrains with enough forethought/modularity... so that failed Bosch QMs could be retrofitted with in-house units. Would be shitty if I'm forced to write-off an otherwise fine truck and be forced to buy a new one (which I likely will not be able to afford).

I work in this industry and the antics of Bosch (and the entire legacy auto supply chain industry) is typical. Bosch definitely did not act in good faith; this is how they treat all customers especially a small one that competes with their larger bread and butter customers. It's part intentional and part incompetence. Rivian has the moral high ground. I 100% believe their side.

Hopefully Rivian gets a good legal outcome. I have no idea on that. A company like Bosch is more experienced with crafting business deals based on not delivering to the true agreement but still coming out financially well.
