Ordered three on 11/27/2018. 1275 days later got my first R1T with a manufacturing defect. Had the option to refuse delivery and get back in the que. Not an option I could stomach. Truck is great. Has some quirks but overall a good product. Ironic everytime I ask about delivery they tell me the configuration is giving them issues. I reminded them I ordered the Launch Edition and did not make one configuration change in fear it would delay my order. I understood Launch to mean first one off the assembly lines. Maybe they meant Lunch edition. They will get to it after lunch.

Last week, Rivian PR responded that "preorder date is not the only consideration" when delivering vehicles. I think it's safe to conclude from their recent activity that preorder date is not a factor at all.

I'm feeling disillusioned and done for now. I'll keep my reservation (switching back to OC, and we'll see whether I keep it or flip it) but I'm no longer anticipating my R1S the way I was before this behavior surfaced.

In the meantime...

Adding another data point:

I ordered on March 27th. Got an email last week asking me to confirm my configuration. R1T Adventure, FG, black interior.
what wheels? this is my build as well. seems like 21" wheels are getting some priority these days...

Just an update. Looking like I will have my truck very soon. My friend is an engineer working at the plant in Normal. He ran a query and found my car. It finished production 5/19 (the day I ordered). So, almost def a cancellation and just pure luck that my config and timing matched ?

I still find it astounding there wasn't ONE SINGLE PERSON who had ordered before you with your exact configuration? Something like 80k people in front of you.

I still find it astounding there wasn't ONE SINGLE PERSON who had ordered before you with your exact configuration? Something like 80k people in front of you.
Definitely don't disagree....not sure how that worked. I've had R1S reservation forever (probably doesn't matter). I also filled out and submitted a "friends and family" thing a couple of months ago that my friend sent me. No clue if that mattered either.

Got an email this week and scheduled 1st mile later this month. I just chatted with CS and they said my "max pack" R1T will be delivered in 2023 as a '23 model, which I'm fine with. The longer range and more time for them to work out the bugs is worth it for me. He also said they're about to launch a much more detailed configurator page, which will include up to date production status and est. delivery dates.

Where the windshield met with the roofline was not even. Apparently the manufacturing process did not align well during the installation. Have to say, the point person for the delivery was very straightforward with pictures and apologies. When it finally arrived, the truck sells itself, defect or not. Lost of attention to detail and styling. Having owned a truck all my driving career with the current being a 2014 Raptor with a Roush Super Charger serialized from the factory and 180K miles, the one thing I hate is the back seat is always cluttered with tools, work clothes, and stuff that I want to keep safe so I can't put them in the bed. Rivian gear tunnel allows me to stow that stuff safe and get back to a five person vehicle. At 590 horsepower, the truck is quick, but none of that compares to the acceleration of the Rivian. With Sport mode and stiff suspension and 9 inch ride height, I can go into fun mode or push a few icons and go for all purpose. So far, I am impressed with everything the truck has to offer except for one item I hate. No Sirius XM. Hopefully that will be rectified someday. To think a person on a daily driver is working their playlists or listening to podcasts is unrealistic. It feels like the old days of buying cheap CD's where you get the top 100 country songs or pop, rock, etc. Frustrating.

At no point was I given an estimated delivery timeframe nor assigned a Guide yet.

What’s ridiculous is I am flexible with my customization. Contacted CS a few times, and they just brush me off and tell me to wait.

I wish I could get a rough idea when to expect a Guide assignment. Also an ability to inform them of my flexibility.

There's a recurring theme with these recent orders getting trucks quickly... other orders from long ago. I think Rivian is doing some sort of fuzzy lookup and fulfilling order B based on the date of order A.
