Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
I thought everyone might like to see this video from Out of Spec Detailing. They focus a little too much on panel gaps in my opinion, but the overall message is that Rivian has come a long way and is getting better all the time. What do you think?

My late 23 build was very good. And I’m a little OCD.
It sounds like they’ve been making improvements. It’s hard to believe that the R1T just came out in 2021 and the R1S in 2022.

Here’s hoping they really lock things down with these reengineered/refreshed R1s this year. Of course they still have a lot of inventory to clear. Maybe they can retrofit those models if they don’t move?

This was helpful to see. Among other issues, my 12/23 manuf arrived with a rip in the leather, discoloration in the wood panelling, rough paint touchups, an entirely discolored exterior door paint job, and a ~1 *INCH* panel gap in a section of the hood. One corner was bent upward toward the sky. Minor details ?‍♂

I'd like to see it be about consistency. My 3xxx looks almost hand built....it is that good. Hopefully the unit to unit variation has improved....that is the real measure. Some random single early unit against some random current could result in some varying results....

Yikes! Hopefully you didn’t take delivery or they resolved all of these issues. If not, that’s unacceptable.

Yeah, more data is needed from owners for sure. Time for Rivian to make good with existing customers and up their game for new ones.

I hope they keep expanding service center locations. Most mainstream owners aren't willing to wait months for appointments or travel hours for repairs.

Tesla has the same issue, but I see more and more service centers popping up, albeit slowly. There’s a Tesla Service Center around the corner from me now and a Rivian Service Center about 30 min away. I’m sure it’s difficult expanding all of this while trying to balance production and make a profit.

But Tesla grew its business without competition. Rivian doesn't have that luxury. It might be difficult....but it also might be imperative. Let them roll that dice to see how much they can get away with and for how long. I am glad not to be in their shoes to try and figure out how to minimize spend on existing customers and service, but still attract new buyers to the brand.

His videos are ridiculously long. I simply refuse to watch most of them. This one is an hour+ long. Seriously?

The content creator needs to get his point across in 20 minutes instead of rambling on for over an hour. I made a comment on his YT video and replied back that “analytics“ prove he right and I am wrong.

I really want to compare them, I wonder how it varies by vehicle, i definitely found issues, most I don't really care about, but I bet some people do. Mine is an October 2023 build.

Issues I've found:

1. Alignment was off - fixed
2. Headlight was chipped (looked like it was dropped on the floor before installation) - fixed
3. Rear drivers side door has tool marks on the hinges, they didn't apply touch-up paint after fixing the alignment I think - (I plan to fix myself with the touch-up pen)
3. Drivers door has some weather stripping that rubs when you open it, it squeaks sometimes.
4. The top trim panels on the roof seem misaligned and bendy, not sure if a manufacturing issue or design
5. Factory needs to handle their glue a little better, delivered to me looking like it went through a shower of hot glue. I even noticed whatever they use to mark the wheels for balancing left residue. Easy enough to fix, but I don't think cars should make it out of the factory with glue on the windshield...

Panel alignment seems fine to me, or at least in spec, I'm not super picky

My R1S is from September 23. I had to rent the Hubble telescope to find anything. And the only thing I found was a tiny tiny dent on the driver's door. Rivian fixed that. If I judge Rivian like any other legacy car company, the build quality is almost perfect (based on a sample of 1).

someone is just lucky.
I sent my R1T for alignment. They fixed that ( replaced the toe). But now I only get 1.7mile/kwh. Used to be 2.25 even in winter.
They definitely forgot to connect something

I'm pretty pleased with the refined nature of my '24 R1T maxpack.

The only thing I've got to get serviced is there is a tiny amount of wind noise coming from the passenger side door at 70 mph speeds.

The vampire drain is a known issue, but there is a lot going on communication wise from the vehicle, and I think a lot of juice is used in maintaining battery temps even when it's parked.

One minor body assembly flaw on the roof where the metal laps at the back. No one can see it really.

Obviously the cell phone charging pad doesn't work either.

So far, for me, I'd agree the QC and early issues have improved a lot.
