Not sure if anyone notices in riviantrackr's pic of the interior but they have the last 30 minutes now, not 15. Oh, and it seems to show average and maybe realtime? (bottom left?)

I do like seeing the upper number as 6... makes me wonder, with a 300+ range, is it an 85kwh battery?

Looks like someone was doing donuts in the back 10 mins before the reveal.

I don’t put much stock in any singular 15 minute window, too many variables. We’ve all hit 4 mi/kw at some point or another going downhill.

I can see 2.75ish for the R2. It’s not very aerodynamic

Not sure we can read much into that. Could have been a mock, or if it was real, we don’t know the config. Single motor RWD, Dual AWD or Triple motor AWD?

Based on the shape, I'd expect similar to Ioniq 5 mi/kWh. These things are actually somewhat easy to guess at because it's all aero-based. Once you understand the basic concepts of aero and understand we build the "perfect" aero car in 1939 and everything else is a compromise (simplified) you can begin to get a feel for what the car will do.

Many people on this forum are already familiar because anyone who tows anything (obviously especially true for our BEV trucks) knows shape is more important than weight when it comes to fuel efficiency.

Rivian's design is much similar to what Hyundai took with the Ioniq 5. They made aero sacrifices, heavy ones, but mitigated them just as heavily with little tapers and rear deck spoilers.

My expectation is the R2 will have a very similar aero shape but have a lower CD, slightly, because higher off the ground. Ultimately I expect this to equate to being within .2 mi/kWh if the Ioniq 5.

Having gone through a rental fleet worth of EVs, the winner so far is the first gen Kona Electric which I can routintely get to 6 mi/kWh on local driving and does much better over 65 than the comparable Bolt. Tesla does it best overall. Sorry Tesla haters. Tesla engineers are function over form. The reasons why we think Teslas are boring is because it's aero first. Aero first was deemed trite/cliche in the 1950s and moved on from, never to be seen again. Everyone who tries, gets made fun of (think MB EVs).
