I think they might have buried the lead a bit. But it MIGHT be the case that all Performance Launch Edition (LE) models are ONLY in the Eskar Silver color, and possibly the launch Green color (paid upgrade) and other colors might NOT be available for the initial LE deliveries.. that would. ..s..k..

I’m just reading this in the initial embargoed press packet.

So with the performance dual motor trim getting yellow calipers - I presume this means that the unmentioned Tri motor would eventually get `Laguna Beach` calipers and trim if/when announced.

Based on the Quad motor Gen2 R1T - we should be expecting that in around 12 months if it's still coming? I'm sure it is - but here it really makes sense to hold the halo back - lest it cuts into sales of the current 'top of the line' model - I know enough of us on here agonized about whether to get a Tri R1 now, or wait for a Quad for the 2nd Gen R1...
https://www.thedrive.com/news/rivian-wont-talk-about-the-missing-r2-tri-motor-the-reason-why-is-big

Signs point to a reshuffling of differentiation based on performance levels. My speculation is:
  • Standard—silver calipers/accent color
  • High performance—yellow
  • Max performance/RAD—laguna blue

Nowhere have I indicated an expectation of delivery of the promised $45K R2 this spring. Rivian set an expectation of producing such a vehicle two years ago, and is now saying that production may happen in about 18 months. Some people may find that acceptable. Others do not. In light of Rivian's recent decision to cancel the base model R1 Dual Standard, serious doubt is cast on their ability or willingness to ever produce the $45K R2. This is classic bait & switch, though probably not provable in court.

I guess autonomy+ without lidar must be still be pretty good? otherwise, it seems pointless to include autonomy+ for life on the launch editions without lidar.

Look up on YoutTube what they were able to do with it on Gen 2 R1S.

I mostly concur in that it was entirely foreseeable weeks ago when RJ revealed that the Launch Edition of the R2 would be a well-equipped model (and most speculated that the price would be significantly above the promised $45K price point) that some would accuse Rivian of bait and switch.

However, in announcing that the $45k(ish) model is still planned, and giving an indication of when it will become available simultaneously with price and specs of the line today, that mitigates the hit to reputation, although, yes, some will still be disappointed and still cry bait and switch regardless. Completely unsurprising to anyone familiar with Human nature.

Anyone see any info on warranty for the R2? do we think it will be the same 4/8 year?

I wonder if it is possible they have the hardware in there and then they could enable it in the future? I mean, the LIDAR components have gotten a lot cheaper. If they did that thought you would think they would scream it from the rooftops as a selling point.

The hardware is there (at least for Gen 2 on), with better resolution cameras and higher computing power. Gen 1 Driver+ might get massaged but pretty much in its final chapter as soon as gen 2 was launch.

And, my earlier post: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...wallpapers-colors-interiors.56959/post-966795

Snippet from press release, I guess this force-balanced speaker set up is first time used in the automotive world. Very eager to hear this system, and it does support Atmos.

The Lidar hardware is a visible addition to the front roof of the R2. That hardware is clearly missing in all of the initial editions of the R2.

IMHO, any autonomous vehicle without Lidar and other sensors is seriously handicapped and I would not feel safe nor trust it with eyes-off operation. But with Lidar and other sensors(cameras, sonar, radar), vehicles have the potential to be even safer that human drivers due to their greater ability to sense objects in poor visibility, etc.

I certainly am not surprised by Rivian's decision to push off the $45K R2. Disappointed but not surprised.
