Not really a shock. No way Ford was going to eat increased costs as a result of ongoing supply issues. I'd just wish moving forward everyone who launches an EV just says starting at $X price and call it a day. I'm just waiting to hear how much my wifes pending Ioniq 5 reservation has increased.

Much happier with my Rivian reservation after this nonsense. The XLT ER pricing strategy to exclude it from the new EV tax rebate is the most puzzling part to me. I’ll expect a conversation rate in the low 30% next year, when they can actually deliver these trucks.

Between all these price increases and interest rates quickly rising, I think we could be seeing cars actually waiting for buyers in about a year's time from now. Maybe that's just my wishful thinking

Ford sees their dealers adding above MSRP, so they feel justified in raising prices. Ford makes it, Ford markets it, dealers just process paperwork.

Agreed it's not a shock, but it does make the R1T more competitive in terms of price.
Can get a R1T Adventure Dual/Large for about the same price as a Lariat Extended Range.

Dual motor Large Battery R1T probably is a solid 1:1 comparison for the extended range Lightning.

Similarly a stripped down R1T (Explore dual/standard) is right there with the XLT. I think that's a pretty fair deal.

So Ford spends money lobbying for the EV tax credit, and then prices most of their configs out of the tax credit range. Really great planning there Ford. I compared the config I ordered and passed on to the 2023 version, went from $80,849 to $89,599. $85k dual motor R1T is looking better and better, though wouldn't surprised if there is a price hike there at some point.

Hopefully that means ADM drops by the same amount

Anyone want to buy a Lightning Lariat? After a couple of days driving both the Rivian is hands down my favorite.

A $6,000 to $8,500 price increase depending on the trim level.

The $71,500 R1T Adventure trim is a relative bargain when comparing content and battery range. The $67,500 Explorer trim even more so.

Can you be more specific on why?

I have a 2022 Lightning XLT that will be shipping soon and a pending R1T reservation. I will need to decide which one to keep and which one to flip.

I do like the idea of the Pro power but I don't need a full size truck. I've driven the Rivian for a couple of months. It handles better and is easier to park. I also deplore the Fords cluttered UI (after coming from a Tesla). Simple things are buried in the menus. Can't even set up simple favorite stations, or easily find the balance and tone controls.

I also like the Rivian 'drive away' sequence better. Get in the truck, foot on brake and pull down the stalk to D and drive away. It's exactly like Tesla, no wasted steps. The Ford requires you to press the start button, pull console shifter to Drive and do the same when exiting, having to also shut off the truck. It's a minor difference but seems so antiquated - again I was in a Tesla for 3.5 years.

I won't ever need the huge back seat and I like the idea that the Rivian is more exclusive. Hope this helps.
