  1. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

Eh, not sure about "far ahead", the ADAS in our '24 iX is pretty stellar, and I'm comparing that to my exposure to Rivian (though not an owner) and Telsa (no longer an owner), and my general understanding of the underlying tech (which is not trivial). And we haven't even had a deep dive inot...
  2. R2 for a leasing noob

Oh, yeah, important point, you're not going to be negiating much with a Rivian lease. However, you can still consider if it's decent. One good rule-of-thumb is ~1% of the MSRP as the monthly payment, as a minimum, then anything under that is better and better. Of course over that is...
  3. R2 Configurator is Live! 🎉 What's your configuration?

It would be nice if they offered like a "deferred order", where your option to buy comes up, you can order options not immediately available, but you get into the queue (so an "allocated" build) with an LE model. Like even if that required a $1K non-refundable payment, I'm sure a lot of folks...
  4. Rival: 2026 BMW iX3 reviews are impressive... R2 has its work cut out

I think you already partially answered this: "for you", i.e., for many, range + charging speed is the desired peak spec in an EV. Also, the performance in this mid/mid-upper market isn't a big thing for many folks - especially when the iX3 x50 is already very quick (and as I suggested in...
  5. Compact Spare Tire for R2 priced at $755

Needs a full sized swing out spare :)
  6. R2 for a leasing noob

We are always so far under the allocated mileage, e’ve never even had to factor that in! We had 10,000 miles a year allocation for the BMW and at the current use rate will be somewhere between 7K and 8K miles under at 36 months. Oh that’s another FYI for @Wefty , even though they specify a...
  7. Compact Spare Tire for R2 priced at $755

Yeah, it's reasonable even in the context of aftermarket, something like a Modern Spare product in a full kit (wheel/tire, tools, jack, bag) generally runs over $500.
  8. R2 for a leasing noob

Leasing can be a great option there's sort of two requirements up front I ask people who are considering a lease: 1) Are your miles driven lower-ish, like in the 10-12K/year and preditcable? 2) Are your plans for short-er term ownership (like 24-36 months) You've already answered #2 :) If #1...
  9. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

I appreciate doing something different, but this is a bit busy, a little "over designed". The glovebox thing isn't an issue with us, the iX has like 2 cards and a keycard sleeve, the Jeep glovebox is full of ducks :D
  10. Friend bought ModelY after keeping R1S for a day, and after learning about R2

These last few posts remind me of the old George Carlin bit :D
  11. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

Yep, it goes back in a few months, it’ll stay here in St. Aug as the “beach vehicle” while we’re managing both houses in the short term. We’ll take the iX to the new digs in DTO. It was our second one, had a blast with both, top off, quiet operation, quick-for-a-brick, actually had zero...
  12. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

Hahaha, due to the ads, I was like, "Holy shit, the seating area is massive AND 4 passengers side-by-side ...
  13. Wait for R2 or get an R1?

This is so true. We've typically leased the "family car", because sometimes I get a little crazy with my cars, but with EVs (and no longer modding) it's made so much more sense to lease. The tech moves quick, the long term costs / OOW concerns, no problem. I might even start doing 24 months...
  14. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

Yeah, I haven't really done a careful critical assessment of the iX3/current-iX/R2 physical vs. screen based controls. I know our iX is pretty good split: AC vents, all audio, drive control, drive modes, seats (except extended functions like heat/cool/massage), steering wheel (tilt/tele)...
  15. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

Really? They're providing killer range and charge speeds because everthing else is lacking, only a Tesla owner would say ... oh, I see 🤣
  16. Rival: EX60 Configurator opening this month

Ha! I had a deposit on one too. Was thinking it would've made a good "secondary" vehicle with the X5 50e, saw it at the '24 Electrify Expo*, along with a 50e that was my perfect config and I was ready to pull that trigger, then saw the iX ... :D Anyway, yeah, it was cute, it's quick in dual...
  17. Wait for R2 or get an R1?

I wouldn't sweat a few outlier videos. Many modern EVs work fantastic and many of those aren't a Telsa. Our BMX iX (and all the current and upcoming i-models ) is superb. Friends with Rivians, Hyundai/KIAs (including a buddy with an Ioniq 5 N who actually tracks his car), got a friend with a...
  18. Would you go with 20" wheels or 21" wheels on Launch Edition R2?

I'd like an 18" with something like a 275/65-18 tire, hahaha, nice ~n~ chonky :D I have zero idea about the fitment/spacing, but there's a huge assortment of tires in that size, and a 0.2% speedo variant so very close in terms of overall diameter (1mm shorter overall height)
  19. Friend bought ModelY after keeping R1S for a day, and after learning about R2

Yep. Our iX has pretty stellar ADAS, but I never rely on it with complete hands off so it's not all that relaxing, but the slightly "less attention" mode, sure that's fine, it's a touch above speed control, with lane centering, I might let go here and there. It's just not a huge thing for us...
