All very reasonable and appreciate the good back and forth.
I don’t have hard data, I just don’t think the market for $90k+ EV trucks is deep. Yes, Rivian has little competition, but consoles feel strongly enough about EV to pay such a big premium compared to (arguably more luxurious) ICE...
My sense is there’s just not the depth of demand for a $90k+ truck. Period. Full stop. The people who wanted an R1T or R1S badly, got one. Even for the R1S, we are hearing of near instant shop access (less than a month and even a few days if you call and say you can take delivery now!)...
carfax has been wholly inaccurate (missing service, repairs, accident work, etc) for the last two cars I owned - one Honda and one Tesla. I would not rely on it at all. It’s useless, which is why they’re free (or near free).
Agree with others. Quad will stay, Bosch will go and Enduros will be used. But I love my QM Bosch.
Also, the in car tech (eg hardware) is outdated annually, if not more frequently, so the “I am afraid it will be outdated” concern is unavoidable. But, at least you get legit OTAs with Rivian and...
This happened to me back in July. No end of Q rush, but clearly didn’t want cars sitting around. Matched me to a car with PPF and I said I didn’t want it so they reduced the price by $1,500 to give me the front PPF for free. You don’t get if you don’t ask…but this was also before the R1S store...
I think OP was trying to be balanced/informative, but I am always struck by any comparison between a Rivian and a European car like Audi, BMW, etc. I think that just happens because of the acceleration factor. Otherwise, there’s just no comparison and there’s not mean to be one.
Rivian’s are...
Everything EV is always delayed - even from old school manufacturers- so a NACS adapter delay doesn’t surprise me as it involves the King of Delays (Tesla) working with others (Rivian) who also delay all the time. Just the nature of EVs right now.
I, too, don’t understand why Rivian would...
Agree, “super luxury” list is what you listed. I meant there’s no question RR is more luxurious than Rivian.
I had an iPace as did a friend. Issue was they rarely updated software and it had a ton of bugs - always. I’d expect the same here, but again, happy to have more competition.
It’s a super luxury car - which is awesome. Despite the absurd “luxury” award Rivian just won, Rivian isn’t a luxury truck. So I don’t think there’s really a ton of crossover buyers. If anything, i think it’s more a Model X competitor but it’s priced high - as usual.
I am sure it will be...
Love my S, hate the nav. It’s almost always longer than Waze and takes the most circuitous and odd route. Totally oblivious to traffic, etc.
Charging - like folks said above. It also just takes a lot of energy to move 7,100lbs. Charging is never going to be as fast a Tesla for that reason...
I’m with the “I bought, I will use it” crowd. You’re more likely to damage the suspension off-roading. Or getting into an accident with regular driving. If it f’s up my suspension, warranty will help.
Are all of you “I don’t want to hurt the suspension” folks not going to charge the truck...
I’d love to do it on my R1S but that description above sounds more involved than I’d like. Other way to do it is just use battery operated lights with AAA or AA.
Just saw the holiday update for my Tesla X. Totally revamp of rear screen with Bluetooth headphones, games, etc. Again, don’t need games, but come on Rivian! Granted, it did take Tesla two years to get around to this!!!
All you folks who are excited about multi stop - do you find the route navigation to be helpful? My Rivian always suggests the most a—backward way to anywhere. This is also true of my Tesla. So I continue to use Waze. And no, I don’t want CarPlay.
Multi stop is useless for me because the...
The other thing slowing demand is Rivian has announced an overhaul/update for mid 2024. If you’re paying $90-$100k, you probably don’t want to do that knowing there will be a better product in six months.
Tesla generally didn’t preannounce the updates. So you had angry customers, but pretty...
