In case of a zombie apocalypse, would you escape the city with an R1S or Audi A6 Quattro

I’m living in the countryside with solar, ev, and hardcore redneck neighbors. I’m fine.
But if I were in the city I’d know where the closest tractor-trailer lot is, so I could go grab one of those. Then drive to the local food-share warehouse where food banks buy supplies, think Costco x10 in size. Probably start out with the riv because the weight would be best for plowing through zombies and sheeple.

Is it better to just become a zombie instead of being a meal for a zombie? If a zombie eats your brain, is it even possible to become a zombie? Are zombies able to drive? These details matter.

R1S sounds great till you hit a pothole or bump something and it goes into turtle mode.
Something may be wrong with your R1S.

The main problem in a zombie apocalypse is logistics. You need to figure out where to go where you can get food and water as well as medical care. How you get there would depend on how safe it is to travel. You also need to worry about lawless humans as well as zombies. And you also need to consider the mode of spread of becoming a zombie yourself.

With the CDC gutted by the anti-science crowd, we’re all going to die.
Not if you're one of those lawless humans shopping at the unarmed neighbors homes. Smart armed people will go where people are unarmed and take their stuff to survive. CA, Northeast is prime picking for supplies, but avoid middle america and the south.

I thought about this the other day. I'd go EV. Gas supplies would all go bad within 1-2 years and after that you're out of luck. An EV with charger and solar might last you a decade or more. Even if all you have is a 1-2kW portable setup to run your 110v portable charger.

I’m not sure who would be worse, the zombies using humans to satisfy their logistical needs for brains, or well armed humans using other humans with supplies to satisfy their logistical needs. I tend the think I’d worry about other humans more than the zombies mainly because I don’t know how dangerous zombies can be.

I don't see how taking other people's stuff by force is "smart". How about share the stuff in exchange for cutting down the zombies? Working together will end the apocalypse that much sooner.

This is an impossible scenario as I own an R1S and an A7 not an A6.

With any SHTF event, if you cannot bug out in the first 1-2 hours while in a major population area you need to plan to bug in, at least for a few days.

Let's make the assumption that you were quick to realize what was going on and also quick to react. Being that the R1[S/T] are great off-roading vehicles you can use that to your advantage. If you come across impassable roads.

For the most part getting out early, you beat the masses. Let's also assume that you had at least a 70% charge - really depends on your charging habits. Without knowing the exact specifics of your battery capacity, tires choices, etc... Let's also assume that the 70% SOC is roughly equal to 200 miles of range.

Now, where are you heading? Do you already have a plan? Do you already have a piece of land or a cabin that you can bug out to? Do you have a friend or family that does that you can meet up with?

If you do not have a solid plan, you may "buy" yourself a couple more days/weeks by leaving the city; in the end you will meet the same fate.

Let's talk EV versus Gas for a moment. EV, if you have a method to charge when the grid is down, is the superior option. While Gas can last 6 months to a year without a fuel stabilizer, without logistics and a functioning economy gas will quickly disappear. The pumps will be empty very quickly. You only have to see what happens in the SE when a hurricane is coming. Cars are lined up for miles(hours) waiting to get fuel before the pumps run dry. That goes for diesel too.

Think Colonial Pipeline that failed in the SE due to hacking a couple of years back. Fuel was in short supply everywhere for months. Now think refineries, fuel trucks and pipelines all going down at roughly the same time. No gas...

There are ways to make bio-diesel and bio-fuel(gas) out of hemp plants. If you have acreage you can make enough to fuel your vehicles. You do need to have land for this though. In a much smaller footprint you can have solar panels and battery storage that allows you to power your living space and charge an EV. Even if charging the EV takes a couple of days, depending on the size of your system, you would still be better off.

You would need to ensure that your solar system is setup in such a way that it will continue to function when the grid goes down. Most residential installs are simply grid-tied and they stop working when the grid goes down.

Let's chat about the grid for a bit. The grid will not last long during a zombie apocalypse. Even if your area is powered by a Nuke plant, wind, solar, hydro, etc... they will fail. People have to maintain those plants and the power lines and substations that get power to you. I would not expect any grid to last more than a couple of days of onset after SHTF.

Our grid is extremely fragile. There are plenty of documentaries/movies/shows on this and I encourage you all to watch. Grid Down Power Up is a pretty decent one with Dennis Quaid narrating. In fact the grid going down, at large, for an extended period of time(months) is a more likely scenario to causing you to bug out of a city instead of zombies.

I can go on, though I don't know how receptive that discussion would be here.

Unfortunately, most of us will find out about a SHTF event at the same time and will react in the same way with panic and fear. I will most likely spend that initial time shoring up / fortifying with my neighbors and spending whatever precious time we have with my family as we prepare for the unknown events to come. No way would I venture out with my family into the chaos right away.

Not sure how to say what vehicle to choose, if/when the decision is made to leave, the world will be a different place and no vehicle is going to be the perfect choice. Fate will likely make the choice for me given the circumstances.

If It does hit the fan, good luck and farewell to all. Remember, luck favors the prepared!

Depending on the day, I might not notice the ZA for a few days. I'm bugging nowhere. Solar is powering/charging everything and my gardening skills are increasing daily. I have friendly neighbors who like raising the livestock I can't stand. If there was a euro car within sight it had better be Italian and ridiculously expensive. Seems I've been preparing for the ZA by just living. I wonder how long my starlink will stay connected.
P. S. Don't come bugging to my house in your audis! I lost all my 10mm sockets!

Starlink satellites need to maneuver fairly often to avoid collisions. Once Starlink employees who maintain this system succumb to the zombies, this would result in a Kessler Syndrome killing all or most of the low earth orbit satellites.

I’m amazed they don’t avoid collision autonomously… (thinks of collisions involving FSD). Never mind.
