I thought it was the 'official' one that was floating around recently... it looked like it didn't stick out far enough to be any of the currently available options. eg, couldn't be used as a step...

It does just look like the main slider bar that runs along the inner part of all the third party options. Seems like Rivian could totally offer this option. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How has this tape held up? Did you go with the 4"? Looks like a pretty good option. I've got some small scratches starting and I need something on these areas. I love @twraps and have several products from them, but I don't know that I need custom PPF here, just something simple that will catch scratches.
I actually used the 2" - and the stuff is so cheap, I'm ok if I have to replace it every few months!

Looking to put some car door sill guards on all 4 doors (this area is bound to get scratched) would prefer something to match the overall look and feel. Hoping someone has tried some of the options available and can recommend.
Take a look at www.weistec.com if you are interested in more substantial sill guards made of stainless steel.

We got our R1S a couple of weeks back. We definitely need a running board to get in and out of our R1S. I wish this was the standard option as in our other SUV truck (LX570) I usually don't modify our cars once we have purchased them. So, this would be new to me. I live in NJ and looking to see where we can get the running board installed without causing any damage to the battery/protection by removing the undercover.

@Pluto I had a GX470 before this, yes the running boards were standard. Lexus makes great trucks will always respect mine for the thousands of miles travelled with the family - would just say that R1S met my needs and exceeded them.

The Plastic panels you have to cut or remove (I chose to cut but your choice) are mentioned here by the vendor for aerodynamics, below. Obviously your call and do the due diligence this is not Rivian saying it.

https://evsportline.com/blogs/news/rmaxx-running-board-install-instructions

Select Plastic Panel Option:

2a
- Retain outer plastic panels (Requires cutting bracket clearance holes in panels). Panels can be cut without removing from the vehicle (recommended easiest option (note: 4" holes can be cut without removing panels, "L-slots" require removing panels to install brackets), Skip to "Plastic Panel Clearance Cutting" below and use cutting template - download templates above). Or, panels can be removed from the vehicle for clearance cutting, then re-installed on the vehicle, Skip to "Plastic Panel Removal" below.

2b - Remove underbody outer plastic panels and do not re-use panels. Note, the factory plastic panels do NOT offer any underbody protection. The purpose of the panels is to improve the aerodynamics of the underside of the truck. Leaving the plastic panels off permanently is acceptable and will not risk damage to the truck and the aerodynamic impact will be insignificant, since the running board brackets extend past the panels anyway.

All of the currently-available 3rd-party options (EV Sportline, DCE, and others) use existing holes and bolts. No damage to anything. In the worst case, the plastic underbody liner has to be removed or cut, but that's superficial.

On a recent trip to Santa Cruz, ran into a couple outside a restaurant who were interested in the running boards. They have booked a R1S and are waiting for their delivery in the future. Was good to spend time with them explaining the details, referred this forum where they could get more information. The boards do provide a safer way to enter and exit.

I just took delivery of my R1S and my delivery specialist mentioned in passing that installation of runningboards can void the warranty, which one customer was very frustrated to learn recently on a service visit. I didn’t get details from him on what exactly was the issue and if that would be the case for all runningboards. I guess I would want to make sure I knew Rivian‘s official stance on this before I proceeded.

Easy cop-out that holds no water in court unless said issue can be directly traced to those boards.
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act if you want to read more on it.

Can only void warranty with respect to damage or compromises directly caused by the running boards or other modification/add-on.
