Hi everyone
It’s Saturday and my birthday so I have a day pass from the Mrs.
I decided to take the R1T on a mini adventure from Encinitas out to Borrego Springs and back. I thought I would post live updates here with pics. Feel free to ask me questions.
Surprisingly there is very limited charging heading out to Borrego. Once you get east of Escondido there is only a handful of L2 chargers. For those that don’t know, the Anza-Borrego desert is north east of San Diego, about 100 miles inland from the coast. It’s a popular destination for off roading and many of the manufactures test their vehicles out there due to the harsh conditions. I’m a little surprised the Rivian Adventure Network is not installed somewhere in Borrego, but I bet it’s on the way.
Today I am planning to drive out, check out the camp grounds, have lunch and then head back home. I have the 22” wheels so I’m not really set up for heavy off road, plus I won’t have the juice to get home If I hit the trails too much.
I charged over night using the included travel charger. I started charging at midnight with 50% SoC. The travel charger is able to put out about 8kWh (245v/34A), our electricity main feeds between 240-245v and the max output of the travel charger is 34A. I decided to charge the truck up to 100% just in case I needed the extra juice. It’s taken about 8.5hrs to go from 50% to 100% using the travel charger which is impressive.
Stay tuned for more pics and updates!
Ready to UnPlug! 100%
Here on the coast we have a marine layer and light rain this morning, perfect EV weather
Departing with 99% battery and showing 286 Miles Range in All Purpose mode
Made it past Escondido, heading up the 79
Lake Henshaw
Last climb
74% at the top of the mountain! Range has been spot-on so far
Arrived with 76% battery, the truck was great in the corners coming down the mountain. I had it in All Purpose and Low suspension
A quick trip to the State Park to scout camp sites for a future visit. They have full RV hook-ups with 50A outlets. A great option for us Rivian owners, we can power the site off our trucks and recharge overnight.
Had a quick lunch in town and heading for home. Departing with 72% battery and 210 miles of range indicated.
56% and 165 miles of range indicated after climbing up the mountains out of the desert.
Halfway home
And Home with 44% SoC and 138 miles of range remaining indicated.
Departed with 286 miles of range (99% SoC)
Minus 158 miles traveled
Should equal 128 Miles remaining
Car indicates 127 Miles remaining - That’s Right On!
Driven 95% in All Purpose mode
