Mine is very loud as well. I also don't understand how the gas tubes are calibrated because it only opens about halfway on it's own but the hinges and gas tubes allow for significantly higher opening if you push it open further.

It does that for short people. I have yet to hear of someone who can't reach the hood to close it. But we sure would if it opened all the way you can push it.

Speaking of the hood, is a very loud mechanical clunk normal when opening it? If it is normal, cool. It was just a bit jarring when I first used it.

I looked under the hood on 3 R2’s and never considered the sound, nothing different than the 3 Teslas I’ve had.

That was my thought exactly. My Model 3 hood pops open pretty aggressively.

Yeah my M3 was a 2018 and there was an issue where the OEM spring in the latch wasn’t strong enough to get the hood up where you could get your fingers under it. I ended up getting a stronger spring at ACE and fixed it, gave it a nice pop. Tesla fixed that later obviously.
