I park outside along the side of my house so when I’m doing dishes my car will be about 5 feet away. That’s why I’ll probably have to disable unlock at home.
And how many movies has someone walking to their vehicle, unlock their doors and a someone else jumps in the back seat to have a confrontation with the driver.... Just saying it could be dangerous. 😉

Oh come on. If real life was like movies, I'd be able to use my hot tub to travel in time.

Regardless, that's why there's a setting you can use to unlock just the driver's door instead of all doors, if that's something that concerns you.

You're correct, my response was out of line.

I have been getting frustrated with how much people turn to AI for all their answers and trust the results. AI is getting better and very quickly but it's still flawed and claiming they don't have time to read 400 pages is a huge overstatement.

I'm having a cranky old man morning, sorry... My wife just woke up so I can now get some caffeine in me.
Unless that is your son in the photo, you're not old......so no old man excuses ;)

Well crap, I can use a hot tub as a time machine to go back and get my younger self to by apple stock; and to think I almost had enough saved for that hot tub.

Have you seen "A man called Otto?"

That is my first name and I am the president of my HOA, lol. Though I joined the board because I was annoyed by a previous president and their nit picking, I have been loosening some of the rules.

I had a tough childhood, I became an adult way before my time. I've been "old" for a long time, even if most wouldn't consider my age as old.

On Gen 2 you can push on the drive's handle dimple if you have your Iphone or Apple Watch with you. Really wish Rivian would add the option to turn off proximity lock at multiple locations. Woudn't really be that hard. Tesla has that ability IIRC.
Nope, at least not that I've found over the last 4 years. You can set Home and Work, but work doesn't work like that. We have a small second home and when we go there, I have to change Home because otherwise it locks while in the garage every time I walk away. Which is extremely annoying as I don't always have my phone in my pocket if I just want to grab something out of the car.

if someone wants to car jack you, they aren't going to scope out whether or not your car MAY auto unlock as you walk up

My phone unlocks the car using NFC (you need to enable it on the phone) when I touch the door handle.
You can also set the "action" button on a newer iphone to one-press unlock at home, or you can use the watch as a key feature for unlock at home if you have an apple watch. I find the action button the most convenient.

I agree with the other comments about disabling proximity unlock at home. I did this almost immediately; don't need my vehicle waking up or unlocking 50 times a day when I walk out to the garage to feed the cats we have living there. 😹

Congrats on the new vehicle!

Building on this, I have a more complex (but easy to make) action. If I press the button, it first starts the air conditioning. Then it checks the location, and if at home, ALSO unlock it. Set a five minute timer so I don't just forget and leave it running/open. This takes no tech knowledge, it's just built into shortcuts. If you have the new iOS you can literally just tell Siri to create it.

You can also have ChatGPT make this for you, and it's only around 50% likely that it will just set the car on fire instead. It's worth the risk.

Does this have pretty success rate when you use it? I tried using a shortcut action to start the A/C on my model 3 and it would time out more often than it would work. Gonna have to try this. Picking up my R2 today.
