R2 is unibody. The body is the "frame". R1 is body-on-frame, where damaged body panels don't necessarily mean the frame is damaged and not worth repairing.

Plus, not unheard of for insurance adjusters and body shops to over-estimate. It's a way to say "we don't want to deal with fixing it".

Honestly, as an owner, I’d probably prefer it totaled instead of repaired at that point. Get the most out of it back plus no wonky 1/2 ass repairs defects
