If you’re a fan of Yosemite, you probably know about the Mobil Mart just off US 395 on the road to Tiogz Pass. Well I was there today with our R1T. Food there is also good

And I saw a glimpse of an optimistic future. There are 8 gas pumps there. But there’s also 6 Rivian chargers. And right nearby about 12 new Tesla chargers are almost operating!

So the final score : 8 gas, 18 EV ‘pumps’. Welcome to the future. At least for people who like Yosemite

Yes, but I‘m still mystified that EV charging stations seem to have unlearned what we learned over decades with gas stations. While you’re refueling it’s nice to have a roof overhead, windshield squeegee, paper towels and a garbage can.

Many Tesla SCs have solar panel roofs over the charging terminal.

As for the windshield washer squeeze and paper towels, they require human maintenance for refills and clean up. None of the charging stations are staffed. The only one I have experienced is at Santa Nella along I-5 where the chargers (Tesla and Rivian) are on a hotel parking lot and the Hotel Mission De Oro maintains the supply and squeeze.

I pack my own squeegie and water/rag. I love SantaNella charger (my favorite), but rarely am going thru that area.

Alternate solution: Drive into an old gas station, use their squeegie/water/towels. And enjoy the reminder of what you don't have to do anymore.

It certainly is nice to see EV chargers outumber the original 8 gas pumps here. Last time I charged up here I used a squeegee from the gas pumps, but when i got back to clean the windshield I noticed one bucket with glass cleaner and a squeegee next to one of the Rivian chargers. Not sure if this was temporary or not, but I like it!

Just as an FYI that Mart is not open year round, it's only open seasonally.
