Of note: 98 degrees outside and AC set to 68 degrees auto. Lots of power used there, so this is probably a worst case scenario IMO.
Running the same loop in very cold weather would be a worse case.

Interestingly, the Porsche Cayenne EV, which is larger and heavier than the R2, got way better efficiency 😲
Of course, because its shaped like a suppository, like the Y.

Kinda sucks, was hoping for something closer to the stated range, something which the R1 initially was pretty good at achieving.

I'd be curious apples to apples aero wise, which drivetrain would be more efficient?

Yeah, 68° cabin temp doesn’t make much sense when performing this test but it also brings in the question how more or less efficient the 20s are in comparison.
Why wouldn't it make sense? It's 98 degrees out. I keep my cabin at 68 degrees when driving in the summer. Or do you expect them to run with windows down, killing efficiency even further? Seems like a pretty real-world test.

If I turn the temp in my Model 3 or Y to 70 or higher with the AC on, the air coming out is slightly warm and icky.

This was 98 degrees outside and AC set to 68 degrees auto. Not a good weather 70 degree day. Tons of AC power draw.
Jose loves to run his AC at "LOW" typically. He was probably sweating buckets at 68F.

Hot temperatures mean less air resistance.

If we assume (mostly SWAG) a 1500W AC load and compare to the EPA Dyno charts I've been posting... This *still* somehow did worse than the State of Charge range test.

I'm thinking the R2 *is* inordinately sensitive to speed. Or Jose just got a dud of a truck (bad alignment?).

We have to be realistic of what people will drive in. We could turn the HVAC off and maybe get a few more miles out of it but no one is doing that in 98+ degree weather.

Yeah no worries. I’m a 72 degrees auto guy myself. Nothing wrong with the test just pointing out the conditions for the test.

Haha, I am in fact a "LO" HVAC kind of guy but 68 wasn't bad at all.

Agreed. This was a real-world test case. I'm not going to run my AC at higher than 68 in the summer, not a chance.

Sorry, southeast bias. Don’t care about the cold 😄
Hey, it gets cold here... at least in central NC :CWL: I don't know how far south in SC you are. Between Dec and Feb, we have average daily highs of around 39, and can dip down to the 20s for some days.

It's the one thing in Kyles testing procedures that I really don't like.

They should have something more consistent like a maximum of 25F heating and 10F cooling (sunny), 20F (overcast/night). But that would be wildly uncomfortable.

Regardless, the Model Y *spanks* the R2 in like-for-like conditions, and ~matches it's own EPA highway range while the R2 comes up WELL short.

This is disappointing mostly because of expectations setting.

Of note, however,

Due to the faster charging and larger battery of the R2, we're still looking at them being close to equivalent in charges between 15 and 25 minutes. I don't have a good charge test for R2 from 0% like the Model Y is here, unfortunately, but these are aligned to start at 10% = 0 minutes. The R2 is theoretically adding range faster the whole time. We know that's not completely true because the 10% challenge proved otherwise.

I'm excited to do my own testing. Lol. A good wax job will bring it right back to EPA numbers. :CWL:
