On the X-Care, can you possibly give the page/paragraph for that? I am not finding it.
It's in the Limitation of Liabilities section. Either in the same paragraph or just below where it talks about limiting total coverage to the JD Power trade-in value. Maybe around page 3 or 4.

V. LIMIT OF LIABILITY:
Our Aggregate Limit of Liability for all pending and paid claims for XCARE EV Coverage shall not exceed the J.D. Power Clean Trade-In Value of the
Vehicle at the time of Breakdown (without consideration of or deduction for the cost of repairs associated with the Breakdown).
If J.D. Power is no longer available, a successor entity or an equivalent nationally or regionally recognized Vehicle valuation guide may be used based
on the territory where the Vehicle is principally garaged – or any source the Administrator reasonably believes accurately reflects the Vehicle’s value in
that territory. Once a component has been repaired or replaced, there is no further Coverage for that component.
Our liability for incidental and consequential damages including, but not limited to, personal injury, physical damage, property damage, loss of use of
Your Vehicle, loss of time, loss of wages, inconvenience, and commercial loss resulting from the operation, maintenance, or use of Your Vehicle is
expressly excluded.

Just for clarification for everyone else, he is correct....

V. LIMIT OF LIABILITY (Section V Paragraph 2): If J.D. Power is no longer available, a successor entity or an equivalent nationally or regionally recognized Vehicle valuation guide may be used based on the territory where the Vehicle is principally garaged – or any source the Administrator reasonably believes accurately reflects the Vehicle’s value in that territory. Once a component has been repaired or replaced, there is no further Coverage for that component.

I dont know about you guys, but thats a big deal for me. We all have seen how a damper/strut/airbag/hydraulic component can fail on these, and they seem to fail almost like clockwork.

So I'm working on my paperwork for the R2, and it's looking like about $1800 for 6 years, unlimited miles with a $500 deductible, 10 years for about $4400. I drive 22,000 miles a year, so 6 years is good for me as I don't think I'll have my R2 past that.

Is this six years after the warranty expires?

It is 2 extra years past the initial 4, 6 years total. But I'll kill my warranty in a little over 2 years based on mileage.

This is crazy…one component replacement really changes the equation…I am now leaning towards self insurance or maybe change my tactics and look into a shorter and cheaper term and then re-up after it expires. I bet you could come out ahead even with the increased price of the second or third policy….

It is disheartening that Rivian believes so little in their product that they allow themselves to go into a service coverage business and have such on onerous exclusion. The suspension alone in the Gen 1s ( I can not speak to the Gen 2s) will require multiple replacements. Maybe they should look into extending factory warranty for the suspension. There is a real problem there….in my opinion!

I can say on my 2025 R1S Gen 2 Tri that with 20k miles on it, I have already had to replace one damper, both front hubs, and both front half shafts (not from the FSAM). So...I think the multiple replacement theory still holds. :(

I submitted for a Rivian Care quote...but I was unaware of the one time use.

I only count 47.
I've heard Rivian Care is only available now for brand-new vehicles bought directly from Rivian, but I was actually able to sign up for it for my R1S last year that I purchased from a third-party seller. I ended up getting the 72-month Vehicle Service Contract and the 48-month Preferred Vehicle Protection.
That’s great to hear since I bought my R1T from a Jeep dealership in AL. I’m the second owner.

Rivian Care is still not available in Massachusetts, darn it. My G1 QT is almost at 50k, I will most likely go with Xcare. The 0 deductible is 6k and the 500 deductible -4600.

The quote is for coverage thru Aug 2030 or 120k miles.

I've been told twice now by Rivian Care themselves that it is only available for used purchases if bought from Rivian and therefore my R1S is not eligible. 🤷‍♂️

I hope I'm wrong but don't get your hopes up. My experience says you aren't eligible. Rivian Care has told me specifically my R1S, bought from another dealer, is ineligible. Used vehicles must have been purchased from Rivian.

Additionally the quote I received for my 64k mile LE R1T did not look competitive with quotes from XCare.

Again, hoping it improves but at the moment Rivian Care is a non-starter for my vehicles.

Maybe they changed the policy since? I got mine on 07/2025

At close to $9k and I absolutely needed the security of a warranty I'd probably just trade in / lease a new one instead of going the extended warranty route. Personally I've only benefitted from an extended warranty contract once so the odds are stacked against me.
