Yes, I chatted with an agent on the Rivian website to express interest in signing up, and I received an email later that same day with an option to purchase. At the time, their chat support was handled by a real person.

Hey everyone 2022 R1T with 77,704 miles currently. I am pretty convinced of getting the extended warranty but am trying to decide between Xcare and Rivian Care. My original plan was to sell my R1T and buy the R2 (which ironically was invited today to submit my order). I've already had one damper issue that was about $1,500 to repair. and just outside of the 60,000 mile warranty. Lesson learned there. I plan to keep my R1T another 3-4 years and reevaluate the EV landscape at that time.

Moving forward, I was looking at these two options:

Xcare - 4 years, 75,000 miles, $0 deductible, covered until 152,704 miles
Price $9,110

Rivian Care - 4 years, seems to be 200,000 miles, $500 deductible, covered until 200,000 miles
Price $10,483
*If I move to a $0 deductible for RC the price jumps to $21,490

Rivian care also gives one time warranty for some additional items like brake pads, rotors, alignments, etc.

I see pro's and con's to both insurers, but have never really dealt with extended warranty before. To me, I do get some peace of mind with Rivian Care given its integration through your account page. The $0 deductible seems great but with the price difference between that and Rivian Care does leave me a bit skeptical about what they may end up covering.

Any insights in to anyone's experience with warranty work covered by either would be greatly appreciated!

Your quotes are so high, that I'd personally "self-insure", and hope that my repair totals are less than you were quoted. But that's just me.

I did a LOT of research on both of the warranty options - I even ran both contracts through chatgpt for analysis, and decided on Rivian Care in the end. Both are exclusionary contracts with similar items not covered, so below were the pros and cons to each for me.

• Established business with good rep in EV community
• Active engagement here on the forum if issues arise
• Single repair only for any one part
• Liability limited to trade-in value
• Lower mileage amount
• More expensive (in my particular case)
• Dealing with submitting and waiting for reimbursed claims

Rivian Care:

• Less expensive
• 200K mileage
• Covers some wearable items one time (headlights, wipers, alignment, etc)
• Theoretically better to deal with approvals/reimbursement - SC files claim for you
• 24 month payment plan with no added fees or interest
• No coverage $$$ maximum
• Single repair only for any one part
• Technically you're dealing with a 3rd party for reimbursement (Assurant)
• $0 deductible option was prohibitively expensive

That's good to know! I have seen that the priced have increased quite a bit, I am also delayed in getting the insurance so makes sense in my case that it would also be more expensive based on that fact alone.

My thoughts exactly. Anything over 6-7k I would balk at, which is roughly the equivalent of replacing suspension at both ends. Higher than that, better off setting aside cost of plan and park it in a divided reinvestment fund—which is essentially what policy providers do with the money you pay them (and generate profit).

Thanks for such a detailed response. I am thinking about just self insuring as well but I have already had one out of warranty repair bill for a single damper and the cost was $2,000 to repair just the one. So it's more peace of mind of ownership for the next 4 years.

Appreciate the breakdown for each company. The only piece that I haven't been able to find concrete information on is the single repair only for any one part. I know they do that for brake pads, rotors, wipers, and hoses, but wouldn't expect that to continue to other issues as well. I could certainly be wrong here, need to contact them directly.

Just quoted on my wife's R1S Quad (2023, 32,000 miles). She has 20 months remaining, which she will hit prior to 60K miles on factory warranty. Can go to 132,000 Aug. 2033. $6462 XCare. $100 deductible.

The quotes certainly seem to be a lot cheaper when you are still under warranty.

With my higher mileage the price seems to be significantly higher for coverage. My same plan with Xcare and a $100 deductible is approximately $450 difference at 8,664.

Thats a good refernce point..
My 2024 R1S Quad for a -0- deductible, and with just shy of 31k miles is... I have 30 months left of factory warranty.

And with a $100

This is where the -0- deductible makes sense, at least for me. I have had my truck in for service around 4 times in the last year, and I think 12 times since I have owned it. $500 dollar difference inbetween the -0- and the $100, the math works to go with the -0- just based on my service history.

it’s explicit in both contracts that a part is only covered for one repair only.

Rivian Care: “This Service Contract is limited to the repair of each covered part one time only.”

XCare: "Once a component has been repaired or replaced, there is no further Coverage for that component."

it’s explicit in the Rivian Care contract and is not limited to wipers etc. It is by far the worst thing about RC vs Xcare.

Are you saying it is a known documented contractual difference that XCare has an edge over RC for those repair/parts issues? I would love to know if one trumps the other on overall value and/or cost over the entire term of the extended coverage period

My 2023 R1T is worth about $50 at the moment (that's the split between low & high at Carmax for my area). If I take the $8500 for a service contract plus that $50k, I then have $58,500 in theoretical value of the truck.

I love the Truck, but for that kind of money, I'd seriously think about something different and not have to worry about numerous service visits moving forward. This is spoken from the perspective of my truck was in last week for the AC leak issue and Half Shaft issues -- both of which were "fixed" within the past year.
