Switched from R1T (Gen 1 Quad) to a Ford Bronco

Obviously a very different vehicle and very different driving experience. But I'm loving the Bronco! I forgot how nice it is to have intuitive knobs and switches controlling things inside the car. 30 years of driving-related muscle memory means it just feels like home to have a "normal" windshield wiper control stock or volume knob. I did enjoy driving an EV and I'll buy another one at some point. I miss the ease of plugging in at night. Don't miss the acceleration. That became just a parlor trick after a few months and I never really used all that HP and torque. I realize this will not be a popular post on here, but thought I'd share in case anyone else is thinking of going back in time to a truck that runs on dino juice.

I've always wanted a Wrangler growing up, and still do to a slightly lesser degree. When the Jeep 392 was announced, I wanted it.

Then I got a Rivian. I love it, but there are some limitations with an EV especially when going far off on trails or towing where I considered a Wrangler again.

I'm torn because I'd be giving up a lot of "luxury" features. One thing I do enjoy is running the AC during camping or just sitting in the car/pre-cooling the car remotely. Once I go to a gas car, that's going to be difficult, if not impossible.

And I DO certainly use my quad's acceleration and power multiple times a day, so I would miss that. Even the V8 Jeep isn't that quick.

I probably will get one one day, but likely not to replace the Rivian.

Why?

Seems irresponsible to have the financial means to do better than pumping carbon into the atmosphere unnecessarily. You didn't have to announce the departure, but you did.

Eh, most people aren't buying EVs to "save the planet". I certainly am not.

If the Scout isn't available in a year or two, I'm buying a V8/high horsepower gas guzzler like I used to have.

This is a public forum, and I think it's actually useful to hear why people are leaving. Those perspectives can be just as insightful as hearing why people stay.

I feel you OP. I'm still waffling about an R2 (just got my VIN) or keeping my i4 as the commuter and grabbing a cheaper gas truck.

I own both, Gen 1 R1T and 2 Door Bronco, both very fun in their own way. Much prefer the Rivian for a daily, but I do love and use the 865 HP. Bronco is fun, but a bit rough around the edges. But yea, physical switches & HVAC vents plus Carplay are nice features.

Can't imagine going back to a gas car at this point, but I do love the look of the Bronco (I grew up a Ford guy). The only thing I miss about ICE is the manual transmission, but those are mostly gone anyways.

I use the acceleration all the time for merging!

And this is why regulations are needed.

Remember, we're early adopters and many of us are here because of the environment.

For 40 years I felt I might want a Porsche 911. I’ve looked at used ones online from time to time. In a coincidence of timing an ideal 2019 used one came up for sale at the local dealer a few days after I took possession of my R2. Scheduled a test drive and went there with my checkbook in my pocket and was prepared to buy it then and there if I liked it. I did not. The R2 is much more fun to drive than even a 911. Can’t see myself ever buying ICE again.

It's a vehicle, enjoy, don't have to explain to anyone. Our GLS450 is a big heavy tank than gets 28mpg on the highway going 600+ miles on a tank while holding the entire house inside. Much more useful roadtrip vehicle than the R1T, but we still use the T for <400 mile trips.

I get the whole think about the planet thing, but the electricity I charge my T with is generated from Coal, so I'm not saving squat.

I llove the Bronco looks, but somehow Ford didn't configure the inside for space....I rode in one and it feels small inside, while outside it is not small.

Last time I had an ICE loaner I hated it. Almost got rear ended twice pulling out into traffic. They just can't get moving. Plus it vibrated and was a very noisy POS. I'll move to Norway if EVs go away here.

This is the attitude that put the EV industry in today's decline. Regulate a personal choice to the point of alienating the "other side". Then when the "other side" inevitably gains power, they push the pendulum harder in the opposite direction. Proven time and time again, overzealous regulation is self-defeating in the long term.

When I bought the R1T saving the planet or reducing emissions wasn't even on my list of reasons why. I just liked the styling, the driving experience, and the convenience of plugging it in at home. But the damn thing was $95K!! My Bronco was $54K and it brings me just as much joy, probably more since I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it. I buy cars because I like cars.

If the R2 had lots of manual knobs, air vents and Carplay....would that of swayed you to stay EV?
