Let’s talk tunes -- How do you listen to music in your Rivian?

This was a recent change (think Nov 2022ish). Amazon "upped" the free prime song list from 3ish million to 100ish million, but downgraded bitrate and ability to play songs directly without paying for the additional service. The internet has been angry about this change.

I nearly dropped Prime because of this and still may close to renewal. Completely broke it for me. (Also their shipping has been way worse)

On topic: I use FM, Spotify, or TuneIn trial. And beg for onboard music in an update.

Most of you guys are way too technicaal for me when it comes to this music thing. I have simple tastes. I just run a playlist from my phone into the R1T speakers.

I have apple music and the Bluetooth works fine.

I cant say I love it, its a little glitchy I often have to switch to FM or another source and back to bluetooth to get sound to come out. It takes longer than it should to sync and start playing, and sometimes the album art is wrong (I dont care so much about this but its just kinda embarrassing) It has gotten better but I would love an Apple Music Integration.

Or better yet CARPLAY!!!!!!!!!

A direct USB-C connection to a music source would fix all of that, including album art. I mean, it's worked for others during the last 17 years.

Yeah, well that's the dream right? Can't understand why Rivian has stubbornly refused to address this seemingly simple issue that has been a standard feature in even the most inexpensive vehicles for years now.

I’m stuck with Bluetooth for now. I used to plug in my phone in my old 2013 Ford Fusion and the audio was fantastic. It sounds like garbage in a tin can in my Rivian R1S. I’m so annoyed that they declared war on USB just to push their favorite streaming services. Everything is close to perfect in this vehicle, but this audio mess is on the order of Comcast client experience. Rivian, please let us listen to our music over USB. I’m not asking for Apple CarPlay, just transmit sound over USB so I’m not stuck with Bluetooth! No, I’m not buying a Spotify subscription. My Rivian experience should not be dependent on my audio preference being the same as your streaming partnership team.

Listen to FM at times. Usually Spotify playlist now. Hate and don't use Tidal. TuneIn rarely.

Other than that is SiriusXM over BT from my phone a lot which is a pain at times. That is one native app I wished they would release soon.

Years later... but still the similar issue. I am still not able to connect a hifi DAP to the Rivian and am stuck with Apple Music which cuts out when there is no network further afield or Bluetooth replay with limited audio quality from a blimming iPhone.

If I’m somewhere with cell reception, usually Internet radio via Apple Music (I like to get the local info), when I’m outside cell reception, or just on a longer solo drive rather than around town, podcasts via bluetooth.

I have solved the problem of how much Apple Music sucks. It does. Historical Context. I have a troth of 500+ songs on digital storage from old CD's that I own. It is enough music that, in my old truck with a modern head unit sound/GPS system that accepted a USB stick, we were able to listen to the music from Rhode Island to the Rocky Mountains without hearing the same song twice. Vintage classics from groups no longer around, etc. Enter Apple Music on the Rivian. The app will not allow me to play those songs because the CD's did not come from Apple, and their Digital Rights Management will not permit me to play the music that >I own< over their app. Consequently, when I load those 500+ songs on my Apple Music app (...takes the upload just fine...) a fair majority cannot be accessed once on the platform, and when Apple Music hits that gap in the playlist, it just stops. Well... it just stops regardless (it's doing that "play 2-3 songs then stop again" nonsense again). >Or< Apple Music will begin playing songs it THINKS we want to hear "...based on your listening history"; music that we neither like nor would consider owning. Apple Music sucks.

I uploaded my troth of 500+ songs to my Android phone. Using the CloudBeats app, I am able to Bluetooth stream ALL of my music through the Rivian music app. Uninterrupted. Music that I like and want to listen to. My music collection takes up about 15% of my phones storage. Some of the music has the meta data for the album art, some do not. Once I start the playback through CloudBeats, I can use the steering wheel and screen controls for play/pause, volume and fast-forwarding if necessary. It took me several hours to migrate the music off my storage to the phone; the music over time, got scattered across several folders and network storage devices. I used the Android phone app File Manager + to move the music to the CloudBeats folder.
