Unless you need the advanced features like load management and the charge output matching solar feature then over 1200 for a charger is crazy expensive. The Tesla wall connector is great for like $500. Other options are on the evchargers site. Evchargingstations

I have an older home with electric heat and a total of 100 amps.
The load management seemed attractive to me but I'm learning.

I plan to do this. The only issue is the R2 does not use DC for bidirectional charging. The unit you show will do AC bidirectional charging in the future, but I’m not sure what additional equipment will be needed in order to make it work with various Enphase configurations.
If you are in California service by PG&E, that cost isn’t really an issue as they have programs to pay for most of the hardware and installation. Bidirectional charging is still not finalized so no one really knows how this is all going to work out.

then perhaps it does make sense. 1200 is less than a panel replacement. I will say that the tesla wall connector supposedly has the same functionality but you’d have to look into how to do it. Tesla

I have a Rivian EVSE and a Tesla EVSE each on its own 60A breaker. I have Enphase micro inverters & panels, and 20kWh of Enphase of batteries.

Due to construction and reorganization I need to move to a single 60A breaker to charge both vehicles, because my panel is maxed out.

I’d also like to take advantage of Enphase slow solar charging. So I’ll probably buy TWO damn expensive Enphase V2s. Hoping I find one or more on eBay before paying full retail.
if I bail out on solar charging, I’ll do two Tesla Universals instead.

I would find an integrated EVSE that would export to vehicle before exporting to the grid to have substantial extra value. Exporting to the grid is a rather poor value on the latest solar rate tariff plan in my area.

Solar first powers the home, second fills the battery, excess is exported for near nothing to the grid.
Yes insert my EV in there just before the grid would be wonderful.

I assume the charging rate for the vehicle when the sun is out could be throttled to match vehicle charging to the excess solar. Dropping the charge rate as the sun goes down and stopping at dusk.

Enphase does something like that.
Charge your car for free on sunny days. When your solar panels produce more energy than your home needs, it’s automatically routed to your EV.

My solar system is Enphase.
As I research home chargers I'm thinking of staying with the Enphase home charger V2.

I'm thinking it will integrate the best.

Is this correct?

I just went through the enphase training. If the micro grid things is important to you, then I think that's the best way to to variable amperage.

But the enphase controller has the EV charger bypass connections so it can remain agnostic.

Personally, I charge off-peak at night so I'm *very* pleased with my "dumb" gen2 Tesla connectors. Just plug in and go. If I need to see charging stats, I can open the Tesla/Rivian app.

For me, the point is not solar charging, but bidirectional charging. Enphase is one of the few players in this space getting their chargers ready for making our cars the batteries that power, our homes.

Tesla sells a new device that monitors your home’s load and decreases their charger’s output appropriately. Costs about $210. Just saw it today.

We’ll see if it works with Gen 1 R1T.

EVSEs are appliances. Get any properly certified unit that is sized correctly installed by a credentialed electrician.
