Gotta say this "rollout" has been pretty disappointing from a buyers perspective, even with years of experience with Rivian. They have been somewhat more communicative but still much of the same old Rivian.

The "rando late adopter lottery" is probably most annoying, along with the hype around a June 9th launch event, to then receive an email saying that you'll find out "before the end of the month" and I now have the "opportunity" to drive roughly 3 hours to have a 30 minute test drive even though there's a service center 20 minutes away.

I sort of expected better from them by this point.
I suspect the launch will get better from here. They're doing some data collection right now based on real data and how people are configuring final orders. Always a chance this new method doesn't work well, but they are at least trying to significantly improve the experience.

I personally think the comms from Rivian has been good and consistent and timelines well covered and on track.

That said, I too feel annoyed about the rando 2026 non owners same city getting invites already on day 1 week 1. It doesn't feel like getting prioritized. I do understand how it can help better determine conversion rates and time estimates for everyone.

I am sure they have other reasons, and maybe they felt like it was worth the tradeoff of disappointing a few early adopters and reservation orders to pacify the masses with more accurate delivery estimates.

Good to see another Rochester, NY reservation holder. I have a day one reservation and have an R1T, no email to order yet (just the end of June one)... I imagine it has something to do with many less prospective buyers in our area....
Yup, you are probably correct. There is only one Rivian near me; owner of a pizza shop with a R1T quad.

I've seen your R1T up in Rochester; love the yellow! You got it from Cars & Bids I believe cause I was eyeing the same auction last year!

Thank you! A year ago on Cars & Bids, got her home from Michigan - great vehicle. I've seen a few R1S's around - but hardly a blip in comparison. Nice that we have a service center in Henrietta now though.

Speaking of being "prioritized," another big annoyance is that during the initial launch they made a big deal about current Rivian owners getting priority, but now it's clear that it's only priority relative to location.

Frankly I don't understand their emphasis on proximity to a delivery location for priority. I do understand proximity to a service center as that impacts ownership experience, but why does it matter how close to the delivery center you are if you are willing to travel to take delivery?

Ehh, I take it in stride. I'm not exactly in a hurry to drop $60,000 on a rapidly depreciating asset just to be one of the first on the block to wave my Rivian pom poms around :D

If I get called early, fine. If I don't, that's fine as well.

On a side note. Did EVERY Rivian reservation holder get one of the three different emails (order now/in a few weeks/end of June)?

I don't know about location. It doesn't seem to be helping us. We live 15 minutes from Rivian's Irvine HQ and have had our reservation since November '24.

However, we are still stuck in leases until at least the end of next month, so we aren't too concerned yet.

We got the email #3, so we expect to have an eta of when we can order by the end of June, FWIW.

We are NOT a current Rivian owner.

You may feel differently if you were driving a R1 that's out of warranty 😬

I've saved a Premium configuration as Favorite to possibly ward off early LE invites - I wonder if that kind of connection is in place? I'm actually planning Performance but waiting for early-MY28, or whenever invited to order from there.
I've listed my preference as the LE but will likely wait for LiDAR and RAP but its good to have the option to get the LE if I change my mind.

Yep, understand everyone's needs and wants are different. I would also prefer to wait if we could but we need another vehicle by August, hard deadline (new driver in the house getting the old vehicle and start of school).

It's just by chance the R2 release potentially aligns with ours, but looks like we may have to do something else (R1S is too big).

Or you have an early VIN R1 and when you have a mobile service and the tech says “oh wow, they don’t build them like this anymore” and “I’ve never seen one of the original manual tonneau covers before.” lol
